I started reading "Why Architecture Matters" by Paul Goldberger. I'm only 20 pages in but so far I'm liking it. I also picked up Slow Gods today, but I didn't want to start that one just yet. The second Exodus book, Helium Seas, comes out in a couple days and I didn't want to jump into a different book before I got into that one.

I'm reading "Burning Chrome", a William Gibson short story anthology. There's something about short sci-fi that lets an author delivery a point in an elegant way without having to build a whole backstory. Some wild ones so far.

I typically don't read much. Mostly shop manuals.

Started this recently. Probably won't finish it.

I am torn on what to read next . . . part of me wants to re-read 'Red Storm Rising', another part wants to read the Hyperion Cantos, another another part wants to read another Ian Banks Culture series book, and lastly - I am supposed to read 'Crime and Punishment' because I made a deal with my oldest kid that I would. She just read it this past year in school.

          thoughts?

I read Red Storm Rising and thought it was only ok. I was only mildly interested in what happens in the rest of the series, but never got to reading the rest.

It’s skipable since you have others on the list.

So many fellow Clancy fans adore Red Storm Rising, and it just did nothing for me. You ask the subreddit, and it's in consideration as the magnum opus of American literature. I've never been able to figure out why. It's the least engaging thing he ever wrote to me. Give me The Cardinal of the Kremlin or The Sum of All Fears (which the subreddit insisted to me was "the boring one," go figure).

@Ihamilton1807, RSR exists in its own continuity, it's not part of Clancy's other body of work. Don't miss out on Jack Ryan just because it didn't hold your interest, they're different animals. The Hunt For Red October through The Sum of All Fears is a god run for fiction output.

The Hyperion Cantos is great, it has been a long time, but I remember particularly enjoying The Rise of Endymion.

Ever since I read Gales of November last year I have been on a great lakes shipping kick. Currently reading Too Much Sea for Their Decks by Michael Schumacher, Its pretty good. Since its a collection of individual stories and not a single narrative throughout it makes it nice to pick up and read just a little bit each night. Before this I read November's Fury, also by Michael Schumacher, it was also very good.

Also listening to Titan by Ron Chernow. I was a little hesitant since it was something like 34 hours, but it was well worth it.
