Newb camera

[The Hobbit]

I am thinking of getting a DSLR camera to play around with. Probably pictures of my kids during sporting events and other “action” shots. Found these two cameras on marketplace and curious if prices are in line with used and if there were any reasons to avoid one or the other.

Both will be fine... Partial to the Nikon, but that's not a great deal on it.

For the price, the canon is good. Plus the older lenses sell for less. Get a nice zoom lens and you can get great shot of the kids games

I love my Nikon D5200. You can find them relatively cheap for the bodies. I love that I can swivel the screen, so I can let low shots without having to physically get down there.

The lenses you buy will be more beneficial than an expensive camera body. So buy nice lenses that can mount to nicer full frame camera bodies if you decide to upgrade later. For paintball though, I prefer a cheap zoom lens, just in case. When you're on the field, and people see you pointing anything at them, they tend to shoot at you. I have a 55-200 so I can get closer without physically being in the way.

i have the EOS.
its been a learning curve trying to learn photography. best i can tell, the epic pictures you see on line have all been heavily altered in post...

one thing it did do though, was teach me how everything works together and not waste as much film. i still prefer my old minolta x700 but its really nice being able to see the photo, make adjustments, and take another.

most of my photos are rubbish but, every so often, i get a few that im thrilled about.

You can get away with allot these days without breaking the bank, prices for most things besides quality glass(lens) have come down. Most photography industry gear is victim of price gouging just like paintball! If it was just a #4-1.5mmscrew it’s $2, but as soon as it’s a tripod quick mount its $45.

The big boys these days put a $3,000 lens in front of a Iphone15.

The Lens is what makes the image.

Id suggest using an IPad 13” for a monitor.

Any of these dslr’s you have listed will be great cameras. The advantage imho is the tactile controls of shutter speed and ISO, without having to tap and go into multi layer menus. If you don’t need the latest and greatest specs and nostril hair level resolution, get something for $200 bucks and remember to buy an extra portable hardrive just for your photography files archive!

Damn. I wanna dig out my Mini-DV and dslr now. Hook em up to a Atmos Ninja 4k Monitor that records and poof. I’m off!

I think I have a canon rebel t2 and t4? No quality glass though.

Yeah looking for something slightly better than the old point and shoot I just rediscovered. It was having greater control over shutter speed and what not that I find appealing. Now just need to learn it all.

If you are specifically looking for action shots I would take a good look at Sony. Their alpha 7 series uses basically a point and shot body that you attach their interchangeable lenses to. Very compact design. The mid range cameras are all translucent mirrors so they are very fast in frames per second. Because of the transparent mirrors Sony has worked pretty hard on image noise reduction. So you can shoot at very high ISOs to allow for very short shutter and still end up with a crisp image.

Correct me if I'm wrong -- but with used cameras, you gotta check the shutter count. They have a limit and replacing it is pricey. Thats why people sell their cameras before it goes out, especially if it has some mileage.

Hmm never heard this but it sounds like a reasonable point. I’d guess more then a few used cameras are practically new too.
