My issue with ultrawide is that it isn't as productive as multiple displays, currently. Seems you're running into that based on your comment about adding a display to work from home. I'm currently using a software KVM (Mouse Without Borders) to seamlessly transition from my personal desktop (right screen and the TV) to my work laptop (left screen) just by moving the mouse between them. Occasionally I'll use all of the displays (sans TV) for the work laptop while still using my preferred keyboard and mouse, and having my personal system displayed on the TV if I need it - or just toggle to it by changing inputs on one of the displays.

Another major drawback is window arrangements. I use the WIN+<arrow key> hotkey a LOT... like several times an hour. Last I checked, the utility of that command hasn't been replicated for ultrawide aspect ratios as of yet.

Obviously I'd love to have the seamless transition between screens, but it just doesn't seem like it can replace the utility of my current setup as of yet.

i will be picking up one of the 3080's tomorrow (or im gonna at least try)

if i cant get one before the 1st run sells out, ill probably just wait until they release the 2x memory cards in a few months (20gb instead of 10gb)

now the veracity of that claim is as suspect as the internet itself.. but it would make sense.. 10gb even with an extra "phase" is still 10gb, and the teardowns show the boards arent utilizing all the the chip slots either

as far as screens, im running 2x at 1080p, "you dont need that kinda horsepower for 1080p!!" you will shout, and youd be right.. except my monitors are 240hz,,

so yeah, i still need the horsepower :P

        +1 for the Win+<arrow key> functionality!

There is a function in the Windows Power Toys that looks like it might replicate that functionality. I haven't tried it yet however.

I do not use my ultrawide for productivity. I use it to play games. I love playing Witcher 3 and Destiny in Ultrawide formats. I do see what you are saying about using multiple monitors for productivity, but my second monitor just houses discord, spotify, or twitch while I am gaming/working.

I have two ultra wide monitors at work, and for productivity, it is amazing. Adobe illustrator on one side, internet on the other (or photoshop). But yes, playing Witcher 3 or any game is amazing. It's hard to go home and use my laptop for games.

          Couple things:

          1) I'm excited about RTX 3000! I going to try to get a 3080 tomorrow to upgrade from my 1070. Wish me luck!
          2) My setup is a 34" 1440p ultrawide @ 100hz and a 25" 1080p at 240 hz - thinking this will be an improvement all around. 2700x for the CPU so will be limited at super high refresh (but Ryzen 4000 coming out next month
          3) I work on the same ultrawide and it's great. Windows + Arrows move individual windows around just fine. Not sure what you guys are talking about
          4) mostly I'm just trying to play RDR2 in 1440 UW at higher than 30 fps...

Good luck to anyone trying to order one of these tomorrow! I'm holding out hope that the supply issues have been somewhat exaggerated

Issue with snap assist and a software workaround that has pros and cons... Nothing shown here is as good as snap assist on 2 displays; not even close. On two displays, if you want to know, you can think of each display as having hotkeys for fullscreen, left or right half, or any quadrant. And you can snap across displays. So, I can arrange 4 windows on one display for quick reference or monitoring and have 2 windows up on another where I'm actually working.
Learn how to snap 3 windows side by Side in Windows 10 and other configuration options to dramatically improve productivity with ultra-wide monitors. There a...

Man, you are probably in for a rude awakening on the frenzy to get these things - based on the past few launches with major performance and c/b gains. I'm betting all of the box stores are sold out in under half an hour. Maybe within 10 minutes.

EDIT: I realized after writing this that we haven't had a release like this since crypto stopped being profitable on gamer GPUs... I may have overestimated the demand.

Well...you were right after all. I was refreshing best buy and nvidia.com from like 8:58 to 9:07 or so and at one point it went from "coming soon" immediately to "out of stock". Ah well.

On the snap assist - if I window+left arrow, my active window snaps to exactly half of my ultrawide on the left hand side. If i do win+up or down from there, the window snaps into the upper or lower left quadrant. It sounds pretty similar to what you are describing but I might be missing something. I get that you'd have an extra "set" of quadrants i guess i you needed 8 windows perfectly aligned at once, where with one screen I'd be limited to 4 larger ones.

I also have two displays, but don't really snap between them.

I was trying to help a friend get one. It was nuts. B&H went down. NewEgg went down. Amazon glitched out. Best Buy actually seemed to do the best job at hanging on, and only because they trickled out inventory on the website - one SKU at a time.

A buddy of mine has had an absolute blast with the experience of hunting down a RTX 3080 at launch, even though he failed. It was his first rodeo. Said the pursuit is probably more fun than actually using the card, haha.

FYI, for those hunting, my favorite site for up-to-the-minute updates is NowInStock.net. I've snagged several scarce items with it. It's not great for launch days, but it's great for surprise inventory after launch.
