Ford Patents in car system to show Advertisements

Imagine your car playing you an ad based on your destination, vehicle information—and listening to your conversation to determine the right time to play it.

It’s not as insidious as the potential for subscriptions features in future vehicles, but I could definitely see this ad thing happening eventually.

Ford would be the first to do it, the kings of cheap. They’ll sell even more F-150s if they give them away to people who signed a contract.

“Hey guys, let’s all go for a ride to the ball game in my HUGO BOSS YAMAHA ROLEX PREPARATION H GO DADDY F-150 Lighting Dude Perfect Edition.”

”Dude, why do you call your car that big long name?”

”Because not saying that would void my deal and the thing will refuse to start.”

“Can’t you afford a Toyota dude?”

”You won’t believe the tattoos Ford made me get…”

Subscription based features are well underway, I’m sorry to say. Some implementations are stupider than others.

I heard about that one. The viewer has to say mcdonalds to skip the ad.

More technology in vehicles does seem to be a net loss for consumers and a giant carrot for the industry.

Manufacturers have also been selling driver data to third parties.

Distracted driving causes thousands of fatalities annually, but I’m sure this is fine…

Self driving cars are already safer statistically than the average driver. I’m sure that’s the idea behind the patient. Self driving , feed them adds while they watch Netflix on the way to work.

The more BS they add to these new cars the less I want one. I was looking at a new truck the prices are insane. I decided to build a resto mod square body instead. I can build a sick truck for half of the $100k buy in for a new one, and I won’t have my insurance company canceling my insurance because they pulled the on board snitch diagnostics off the black box. If I go old enough they are exempt from a ton of BS government red tape like emissions.

Give me a square body my welder and spot to build it I’m good. You can keep that electrical nightmare and your high interest rate mortgage payment trucks they looks like garbage today anyway.

Any car that has ads can literally get f**d. Imagine you have to watch an ad before your stupid truck will let you go anywhere. This is worse than subscription based upgrades in cars.

Ford can’t get the sync radio to work correctly. I doubt they’ll be able to get this to work either

Bought a new Crosstrek last year. First thing I did was pull the entire infotainment/starlink stack out and put in a classic single din dot matrix display cd/usb/bt radio. My cars a ghost and they can suck it.

Yeah…I feel ya…but Subaru infotainment systems are sorta total trash, last or nearly last in the business. I’m not sure if I be man enough to do that if it were a G Wagon or an RX where the stuff actually works properly. When backup cams became mandatory Subaru’s implementations looked like some local stereo shop put them in.

Also, is your “ghost” car registered? Like…with a number plate on it? I think people can find you. You gave The Man your real address, right?

Legals be different. Monitizing me based on the where/how/when I use something I "own" isnt part of the deal.

The radio in our 2017 Impreza never had any issues. It also has a nicer image quality than the sync 3 radio in my 2023 Maverick.
