Where does everyone get their screws?

I'd like to have some screws of various sizes, etc to just have on hand. Unfortunately, none of the big hardware stores I've been to sell Allen headed screws. I've also checked out a fastener store, but their Allen head selection isn't the greatest based on their website. Where does everyone get theirs? Somewhere with a physical location would be preferable so I can just pop in to test fitment and not have minimum orders, etc. I'm in Canada, so I know this will vary greatly based on where you are, but are there any general types of stores I haven't looked at that I should be looking for?

I don't know about shipping to Canada . But, you could try 1 of these:

    mcmaster.com

    or

    fastenal.com

Fastenal since I have a local one <3 Just watch out on the pricing there are multiple listings of each screw. You should try making an online account.

For any other random hardware, Aliexpress.

Also physical contact with product seems a thing of the past until lockdowns are lifted. I got screwed assuming I'd just be able to get what I need when I need it but things are a bit more complicated..

I've thought about ordering some of these. Anyone have any experience with ordering yet. I was wondering how shipping is to the US... 🤔

//disregard// I already ordered those and those are HARD plastic, not o-ring material. Useless for me not sure what people use them fore. I wanted them as 12g cup-seals. If you know your purpose for hard seals then they will be fine probably. //disregard//

I can't imagine US shipping from China would be different than Canada... it seems reasable only problem is the time ranges , best that can do is 15-30 days, and sometimes it'll be way more.

        high durometer urethane

They are the hard ones. If you need hard ones then yeah should be fine... These will not work as 12g cup-seals as I've tried (i.e. where the piercer pin is for a 12g powerlet). But for the purpose they depict on that page, it should work! Also I like that company used em before.

I'd like to use them to repair a few brass pin valves.

Found your problem. Back in high school I worked at the local mom & pop Do it Best Hardware store, they had every single screw imaginable. At one point they even had 6-32, 8-32, and 10-32 set screws with steel ball bearing bushings on the tip. Made for some crazy smooth slider frames.

Now I just go to ACE. The selection isn't quite as good as it was at that old Do it store, but it's has 99.9% of my needs covered.

McMaster has them As Grub screws. They even offer Teflon tipped and brass. They even got ones you can adjust the tension on if you dig deep. So it lets you set the plate on a floating Teflon seat that gives a lil. I run the brass ones on one of my builds with roller sear and trigger setup. It’s so smooth you can feel the dust finish it rides on. If it was on a gloss body it would be even smoother.

If I can’t find it at the local hardware stores I order from http://www.mcmaster.com/ they got everything.

I wondered how long it would take for a reply like this when I put in the title.

Ace and home depot have most of the allen screws I need.

I checked out the websites for a few fastener stores in my area and nothing. Is there an alternate name for Allen Headed screws? I get no results looking that up, and looking up 'hex' instead gives me ones for a socket/wrench.

I don't think there's too many mom & pop hardware stores near me, and they'd only be open for curbside pickup right now if there are any, so not that helpful.

Is it a thing to go to stores and buy individual screws, etc out of a bin like they have pipe fittings? Or would I have to buy a box/bag of whatever size?

You'll want to look for caphead or buttonhead screws.

I usually get mine from Amazon. Yeah, I probably pay more than I should, but it's way easier than trying to find a Fastenal that's willing to sell me ten 6-32 screws or whatever else I happen to need.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

This is MCB, surprised that it was not done sooner.

                like a few said McMaster.com.
if I remember correctly that is where I picked up some done in black and they have some raw that you can anod to match.

I also found tubing for airlines that i got anod to match.

Generally I have most what I need from collecting stuff over the years or from various spare/rebuild parts kits I have. But what I don’t have I’m lucky to just raid the bolt bins at work (truck mechanic). And failing that I can swing by Brafasco or Nuts&Bolts and generally find what I’m after.

Local hardware store chain they're much smaller than Lowe's or home Depot but they have an amazing fastener collection I've yet to need to order anything that is not a custom-made piece for paintball

McMaster. Excellent selection and prices, and I can have the stuff at my door the next day.
