I have 2 Cockers that I am converting into Snipers. Most of the time they will be set up for stockclass style play running on 12 grams. One is a 2K style body by Hybrid that has been cut to a mid block and the other is a Dye Ultralite Mini Cocker. What internals would I need to change in order to get each one to run good (not necessarily looking for efficient, but definitely consistent)? Would I need to look for a different valve or would playing with the springs be best? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t do anything to what you have in my opinion . I jump back in fourth from 12 grams to HPA all the time with no issues whatsoever

Regulate it and run it just like HPA. My CCM gets about 30 shots on a hot day. (If you shoot slow)
Unregulated is difficult to get just right. Heavy spring combo and a Palmers HP valve was the only way I got mine to shoot right. There is no Magic spring combo each setup is different. Pick a temp range you plan on shooting it in because you won’t have much velocity adjustment range. It’s a lot of trial and error.Comment

Are there any signs I should look out for that would tell me I need to try a different hammer or valve? I have an old Shocktech heavy brass hammer and a Rat Valve lying around. Both Cockers were bought second hand and I don’t know how to identify the exact internals in there now. I will take both of your advice and run them regulated instead of straight to the VASA.Comment

Use regulation to get consistency. If you need lower operating pressure, higher velocity, or better efficiency, that's when you worry about the internals.Comment

Pre 2k get better efficiency because it’s holds less volume. But definitely regulate it. Just make sure your reg you are using operates with in the pressure range of a 12g and you are good to go. I throw an ICD lever changer on the back of my stock CCM cocker pump. If I run it on Air at 300fps putting 12g to it it shoots about 275-280fps without adjusting it. I usually just use it like that for the day so I ensure I get at least 30 shots out of it. Only thing I recommend is getting good fittings and line. Those macro fittings do not like the on off pressure of 12g. But basically you can setup a cocker pump for 12g the same way you do HPA. You want to fine tune it you could optimize it a bit pick up a few shots here or there but cocker pumps really don’t run super good on 12g efficiency wise. No matter what you do to them.
un regulated is a bitch to get right it takes burning a lot of 12g and lots of chrono time to get just right. + you get spikes so it’s not very consistent. Unless you really take your time and let the 12g cook off after each shot. My KCPS Scout is like this. I have custom spring setup I got from Home Depot and a Palmers HP valve so it will hit field speeds. Your typical Cocker springs don’t give a standard hammer enough OMph to get decent velocity. I must have cracked 100+ 12g just getting it to shoot.Comment

I am considering this too, I want a to build a "stock class" sniper. I was imagining a right feed body modified for Phantom feed block and running a 12 gram changer. Palmer's HP low turbulence valve. But if it's really that much of a pain in the arse...may have to come up with something elseComment

The Palmer valve with right springs would do just fine
or throw a 12 gram on a normal regulated gun and use as is. Would probably be fine and greatnComment

Maybe get a CO2 tank for testing if you decide to start playing with the internals, instead of burning through 12g's.Comment

Even an HPA tank is fine for coarse tuning. I tune/test my azodin using hpa at home, internals work similar to a sniper. When I get to the field, only adjustment I need to make is bump the reg pressure up a bit. Or just shoot a little slower for the day and touch nothing.
I run the 12g on a bottomline asa, tune the hammer spring pressure until it's consistent, then adjust reg pressure to get velocity I want. 30 shots a cartridge no problem.Comment

Like others have said, run it regulated. With my S6 I switch back and forth and only have to adjust the velocity a little. On a 12gr the gun shoots 15-20 FPS slower than it does on HPA. I have a pre2k that is very similar. I run that at about 350psi with a stock valve and hammer.Red OneComment
