    Kingman hammer 7

Saw a guy at the field couple weeks ago. I was not familiar with it or seen it before. He of course had lots more stuff strapped on there than I would, flash light mount, scope and so on.

I was thinking of maybe looking to picking up a basic one (not like I need another marker).

are they worth it, if you used one can you give pros and cons.
    thanks

It's a sharadin valve mag feed pump. Basically a milsim phantom that can shoot first strike

As for picking one up, all I can say is good luck. They are very popular and went out of production around 2015

A friend of mine gave me his Hammer 7 years ago. Didn't realize how popular they have become. They were okay shooters from what I remember. The pump handle was designed to mostly fit the stock barrel. I remember barrel swapping was a bit frustrating because the pump handle wouldn't fit most barrels without modification. Hammer 7's show up on ebay quite frequently, just be prepared to pay premium for one.

Only thing the hammer 7 has over any other Nelson is that it can feed from the bottom. Only thing about I particularly liked about it is that it's side cocking but has an undercocking style pump handle that you can get your fingers around.

They need work if you plan to use it as a pump gun. The hammer will slam against the valve if you pump it too hard, so you need to put some shims in the pump handle to reduce the pump travel. If you plan on using it magfed, go 'shotgun' style with a spring feed, or modify it for different mags since Spyder mags are horrible for the price. Also barrel kits are pointless since the chambered ball is fired from behind a detent (which chews it up), and if you twist the barrel the wrong way to change from mag to hopper it ruins the anti double feed detent. Like others have said, changing the barrel makes the pump handle loose.

I bought one second hand locally with no accessories for $80 in 2016. I played with it once, shot it a couple times in the backyard then sold it last year for $150 plus shipping. It sold within an hour of listing. People are paying $300+ for these, but I wouldn't pay more than what I listed it for.

If you want a cool cheaper magfed pump, get a Phantom or Trracer with a TiPX adapter.

Save your money they're not very good at being a pump gun, or any better at being a mag fed gun.

Dudes love them for some reason but honestly the one that I've had is pretty terrible all around. I basically keep it around because I used it to prototype parts here and there and I've lost most of the accessories.

They mostly just look neat, but like others have said they are not very good as a primary unless you want to fiddle and tinker constantly. There are some cool upgrades for them, but in the end they don’t do much to change the base marker. Take that with a grain of salt, but this is coming from a spyder enthusiast.

I think they are pretty good. No not the best thing ever but there are just so many directions you can take a build in, you can use round ball and FS and I see no reason you can't do some basic work to run both at the same time.

Hammer 7's are a popular "rat rod" marker.

They were the most inexpensive off the shelf FSR marker that works reasonably well. This made them the sweetheart of every paintball guy with an itch to try first strikes, a Dremel tool, and a hankering for jankering.

I am a sub par tinkerer, and I don't like playing with FSRs. My Hammer 7 saw the field 1 time, and 1 time only.

                Your mileage may varie.

                  .
Well except that they went out of production because they were not selling well. I think spyder was just about 5 years ahead of when they should have come out. Today they are popular for a number of reasons but being mechanical, being able to run first strike and having so many build options are just a few

The niche market I am describing is not a big one.

Modders fall in love with cheap unloved platforms that are easy to source. I bought one because I cost less than a case of top shelf paint brand new.

Magfed has really taken off, and people have learned that they can very easily modify Hammer 7s into various rifle stocks. One of my favorite YouTubers is Hidden Hedgehog. He fitted his into a Mauser stock, and has a mechanism that allows him to recock it by pulling back at the rear of the marker. It's pretty cool.

Layer Lab has come up with a lever-action system for it. With the .50 cal revolver options we have now, you can go full wild west on the field. People are doing awesome things with these.

But, that's driven up the cost substantially, and increased their scarcity. A few years ago, they were $60 all day. Now they're closer to $150-180, if you can find one.

As others have pointed out, the fit and finish on the stock Hammer-7 was terrible, way below standard even for a Kingman/Spyder product. The pump stroke was awful and the grips didn't even fit right. Most of the clever touches on the original Hammer pumps, like the quick strip thumbscrews and brass internals were gone.

If you want a modern "tactical" interpretation on the Nelson pump the Empire Trracer was better all around.

The only reason they're as popular as they are is that there's no other good single-action Magfed option.

Junk at $60 (new), junk at $200 (used)

They need a ton of mods just to shoot right out of the box. There are a bunch of printed gadgets for them. Modified for Dye dam mags, shimmed and modified handles for small bore barrel, and tuned for HPA they shoot a lil better, oh you can also JB weld the bolt face so it don’t purge as much air on each shot to pick up efficiency and make it so it will shoot all kinds of paint not just the cheap marble type. I put a drop on mine so I could aim it. I hate back bottle setups.

It’s really a trash marker you can make look cool.

I've always been a tinkerer. I like my H7. I have a couple of tubes filled with FS rounds but I've never shot one. Ever. I converted mine to a 25 shot shotgun that only shoots roundball, setup for rock and cock. I might get saucy and dremel a groove in the feedtube to make it force feed for 20rds. I've got other projects that need to be completed first.
