Removing max flo reg

Wanting to get the tank hydro tested, thought that it be easier for the shop if I remove the regulator and dont want it damaged. Maybe I will go with a different regulator.

This is when having a table mount vice would be useful to use with the strap wrench. I cannot get this reg to budge from the tank.

Anyone have any other ideas how to remove the reg.

I can't think of a way to to remove the tank that doesn't involve a vise. I've always been able to remove tanks by hand if I have a pair of grippy rubberized work gloves.

I have also always had luck removing it by hand. Maybe enlist a friend and see if you two can bust it loose together. This is why I intentionally keep friends with an Ogre like man who can break rocks apart by hand....

Maybe I am wrong, but wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a new 48/3k tank? That way you get a new tank and Reg. Here it is $45 to hydro, maybe it is cheaper where you bring it though.

That was my thought. Maxflow's are cool but i don't think that's an original tank. I'd vise the tank, take the reg, rail and nipple off, then horse the manifold off. Strap it, wrap it, whatever it takes. Heat tank as needed. Then give that Max a new tank.

Someone probably put some red loctite on it, which generally requires some heat to get off.

Thanks guys for the thoughts, maybe I am just looking for an excuse to get a portable bench and table mount vise. Just have to find a way to hide them in the garage and find space. Hahahahhahaha

Yeah I doubt that will work with the wife. But if she does not see it coming in and I happen to pull it out when its needed for one of her projects or fixes. Might work.

I have had great luck taking the gauges off on tank regs then putting them into boiling water for a minute or so. It is a good first step before flame/heat guns. It usually wants up the tank/reg threaded enough to get things loose even if it is loctited. This also works for carbon fiber tanks without risk of ruining the tank. A tank hydro company guy showed the trick to me and he uses it on firefighter tanks that are being difficult.
