    RaceGuns revisited...?

I had to do a lot of digging and a little organizing through my stashes, looking (in vain) for the last part I need for a build, and happened across no less than three RaceGun frames.

Getting them all, and the parts, together into one box, I have three complete frames- two chrome and one black, the black with a custom trigger. I have two solenoids and three solenoid mounts, one new-in-the-bag battery, three chargers, the serial-port cable (maybe two) and some spares, like incomplete eye looms and the like.

Zero clue if any of the batteries are good. The last time I tried one of these was back when I was playing with bolting them to Typhoons:

And the metadata on those pics dates it to early 2004.

Is there any interest in these, today? If I dig a bit, I might be able to find one of the CDs I burned with the RG software, but again, no idea if anything would even run that today. I have two of the serial cables, but only two, and I suspect that few desktops even still have serial ports, let alone laptops. I'd assume there's a way to connect this over USB?

Alternatively, I don't see why these couldn't be gutted and fitted with one of the new Morlocks...

What would the price point be? Can you fit everything under the hood without the palmers length adapter plate? I have a stroker I could use one on, not that I need to race it, but Id consider it for the laughs.

Adaptor from serial to USB are available, I use some at work, but we found out sone of them work better than other. You can find them on Amazon.
When we connect on the diagnostic port of multiplex system at my work we also need a software like MaidCom that will connect and let you know the COM port number. I am no expert in computer but I guess it should be similar for this.
I can try to see if I can find the software for you. Google search does not seem to be working well when you type "maid" in the search...

Too cool! I'd be interested in a setup as well depending on the price, looks like BrickHaus and I have similar ideas on Strokers...

I’d definitely be interested in one depending on price and if I could afford it lol.

I am trying to stay away from batteries, have too many already that use them along with the hoppers. But this would be very cool to have one of your creations. Like all would be interested depending on price point.
still want one of your double barrels.

Clarification: I don't have any Stroker or Typhoon adapters on hand. I can certainly make you one, of you'd like, but those photos are just examples of the last time I can recall messing around with Race Frames. I think I fixed a complete Racegun for Spec around that same time, but that's about it.

What I'm curious about is if there's any real interest in these frames, still. They're all in good condition, I have a charger for each, and I think a data cable for two. All have batteries, but as I said, no clue on the condition of them.

I have any number of 'Cocker projects of my own I'd like to use at least one on, but the unknown condition and irreplaceability of the batteries concerns me, as well as the possible inability to actually program the thing beyond whatever they're already set for or whatever defaults they have. (Do these things revert to defaults like the old eBlades did?)

I have a Race cocker and was wondering about the batteries also. Mine doesnt appear to take a charge and I have no idea what voltage they need so I dont know if I can even splice in a regular 9volt.

On a separate note, Doc are you still interested in doing some of that custom work we talked about a while ago? pm me if you got time, thanks.

Anything over 6 volts it goes into charging mode. Freeflow had a professional frame that used a 9volt..but it ran different software.

Doc, I wasn’t even thinking about them for a stroker or typhoon. Just to put on a regular ole Autococker.

Here's a Customcockers link for Racegun FAQ (was looking thru it to find battery voltage to see if my RC friends know of batteries that might work):
This is a discussion forum dedicated to the various custom autococker paintball markers which have been built and modified over the years.

I definitely think there is interest in the frames, I always preferred them over the look of the E1/E2s aesthetically.

Looks like I'll need to get the box back out and sort out exactly what I have.

I was thinking I'd like to keep one for myself- I always preferred them to the EBlades, though the EB was, from a user standpoint, a better design- but really, the bulk of my guns sit a lot more than they get used, so I've been tending to prefer mechanical markers. I may have to replace seals every now and then, but I don't have to worry about proprietary batteries, defunct software downloads, or impossible-to-source charging cables.

Let me get the project du Jour off the table, and I'll drag these back out and give 'em another look.

I make battery packs for raceguns. Also you for using a serial to USB adapter. You need to find ones with authentic prolific chipsets. Cheap Chinese brands are hit and miss.

On another note. These boards are old. They have surface mount small capacitors. When they go bad they stop reliably dropping the sear. You can replace them but it's a bit tricky if you've never done surface mount chips/capacitors before.

Edit - I also make data cables and charging cables with power brick. As well as eyes for raceguns

That's certainly good to know. Did you manage to source the apparently obscure original grip connector for the data cables, or is there a workaround for that?

I have this Lemo connector saved from when I was going to mess with Raceguns, but can’t remember if that’s the one.

So if you want an official lemo connector. They usually cost 40-60. Which obviously makes making cables to expensive. Luckily our good buddies over in China " 🙄". Decided to clone it like they do with everything.

The size used in race guns are 0B FGG EGG 304. You can pick them up as cheap as $15 or so shipped on eBay. But shipping times can be brutal.
