    Umarex guns, need real opinions.

Starting to get back into the sport, left about 10 years ago. So looking around I see several new guns that id like to know if they perform and hold up ok.

    Roscoe Revolver
    Umarex .68cal Revolver
    Umarex double barrel shotgun
    Do they shot decent velocitys?
    Do they hold up decent?
    Are they fun to use?

I realize you get what you get for the price, just want honest reviews.

    Thanks!

Roscoe Revolver - Breaks paint in stock form, FSR shoot good.
Umarex .68cal Revolver - Breaks paint in stock form, FSR shoot good.
Umarex double barrel shotgun - Low velocity in stock form, but you can mod it to reach 300fps.
Do they shot decent velocitys? - The pistols can usually get up to speed, see my comment above for the shotgun.
Do they hold decent? - Like do they feel decent? Yeah they're all generally very comfortable to use.
Are they fun to use? - Depends on the situation. I love shooting my double barrel, but it can be frustrating to use if everyone else is shooting hopper guns. If you have ever played pump or stock class against open class guns you'll be fine.

All in all I think they're fun guns, but in general they need some modding to be usable for normal paintball. Out of the three options I'd say the shotgun has the most usable form cause it doesn't break paint that often.

I havnt used the Roscoe, so i wont comment on it, but i have both the Umarex revolver and double barrel shotgun.

The double barrel has a restrictor that needs to be remove to shoot decent. Once removed, it shout around velocity and FSR are right around 280/300 👍
The Umarex shoot a bit slow from factory and way hot with the restrictor removed. Still usable in stock configuration.

Hold by handling? yes. They have large handle due to teh 12g and the plastic shell, but good grip on them.
Hold by hold in time? i think so, I've had them for over a year and played with them several times and never had to do anything to them.

      Hell yea!
The revolver is more "clasic" pistol feel.
The double barrel is a blast, definitely recommend having one in the day bag!

PS: a note on the double barrel shotgun: the gate selector on mine leak a bit. When selecting only 1 barrel it shoot the ball out of the "off" side about 3ft in front.
This is no problem, just a note.
PS2: I always use it with both barrel, thats half the fun of it 😋

Good point, I always use both barrels, but I have heard of stream split when using 1.

I haven't experienced any issues with any of the Umarex I've owned, but they are a pain of you do want to open them 😅

They make novelty markers not really much to it. They are fun to shoot but often come with a bunch of issues that can be somewhat easy to work around but out of the box always suck.

They are all far from practical.

I really had high hopes for the 68 revolver but by design it’s to hard on paint it needs FS rounds and even then it still hard on them. Even at less than effective ranges.

First off I have to ask, why that selection of markers? If you are getting back into the sport the selection you have there is fairly limiting. If that's what you are going for then great but you will be fairly outgunned by most rental players especially with markers like emeks coming in as rental markers these days.

        That aside.

To me the umarex stuff has never felt good in my hands. They all have felt little better than nerf guns, fairly cheap and mass produced. Which to be fair, they are but it's just nothing that inspires confidence to take them out on the field.

The shotgun I've only really held and fiddled with, it was so lackluster doing that that I have no intention of spending any money to get one.

The pistol, my understanding is it's just an enlarged version of tr50. Most the guys around here seem to like the tr50, I'm not one of them. It also felt fairly cheap. I'm not a fan of clamshell markers but clamshell + plastic body just seems like a terrible idea for long term. My biggest problem with the tr50 was the trigger. Because of the way that the articulating barrel interacts with the cylinder, there's a slight lip where the cylinder has to push the barrel out of the way. The problem was that lip was too big. When pulling the trigger slowly the trigger pull was much stiffer, when pulling fast it was much lighter. So there was no consistent trigger feel

I quickly traded the tr50 for a Roscoe. You do know the roscoe is 50 cal right? Just wanted to make sure

So far, I love the Roscoe. It's a chonk though, feels like the whole front end is solid aluminum. Trigger feels much more predictable than the tr50. you can run it as single or double action. The break action is very smooth and has a nice mechanical clunk when it locks back into place. About the only thing you can't do with it is flip it closed once you put a new cylinder in. If you try the cylinder goes flying out before the action closes

I haven't been able to Chrono it yet. Heard mixed things but I have a potential solution for both the reportedly small barrel breaking normal paint and no velocity adjustment outside of replacing the valve with the "high velocity" valve.

Not looking to use for anything primary, just a cool sidearm, toy.....lol. Ive kept up with paintball in my periphery, but hadnt seen anything but the Roscoe. I did see that its 50 cal, and as long as it shoots reasonable velocity, I dont mind.

You can adjust the 50cal down with mods to hit field speeds. The 68 needs more pew but shreds anything less then hard shell paint.

Double barrel here. Modded the restriction, not removed. Fun toy.

I'm going to tell you the same thing I tell everyone else.

Do you plan on your marker breaking during a game?

If yes, why didn't you do your maintenance?

If no, why are you carrying around extra weight/target for me to shoot?

Go out and play with the pistol, but don't expect it to be useful as a secondary

I've had some good use out a secondary, but only when pairing it with a bolt action FSR ...

Agreed only way I see it being usable is during the few situations ware you’re getting run over by a big push in a big game. Even then it’s a last ditch effort going down with a fight kind of thing. They don’t even shoot field speed half the time. I cant think of a time I needed a secondary marker functional wise. If you’re out there playing a character then it’s something different. But the mag fed guys make me laugh sometimes with the kit they run because most of them are super serious players. The worst part is during big pushes like that unless you coat a lens people don’t get out in scenario paintball especially on big pushes like that. I think I’m done with scenarios at this point because of it. (Sorry for the off topic rant)…

NO one plans for their marker to breakdown...........sheesh.
You are assuming what I would use them for. I just like goofing around with different guns, but if its a total POS from the start like the S4 Double barrel VW in a wood stock monstrosity was, Im not interested. Ive never actually carried a side arm or backup in a game, but the double barrel shotgun would be a fun one to carry if I did.

I wish the barrels were a lil longer and they took freak inserts. The double barrel Shotgun is definitely more usable. But it’s not for the novice player. Probably wouldn’t make sense as a secondary.

It’s more of, it’s warm enough to get good enough velocity so I’m going to challenge myself by using a low velocity slow janky novelty marker that’s fun to shoot. You can make it work but you got to get close and play aggressive. This is why it’s not fun playing electros with it unless you get the drop on em. It’s hard to snap shoot with the thing. It’s slow to reload and odd to aim, so the range you need to get to make it usable with any experienced player you are just going to get run down. I would take my single shot brass builds over them any day. I can at least hold my own with them in a gun battle and I’m getting a full 280-300fps shot each time.

What you need to do is get yourself an old PGP and talk to Creeper Customs have him build you a bad ass high functioning brass pistol.

          Function and Form
I figured I would start fresh with a thread for projects. I'll start with this clean brass in a bin.

They thought someone was firing at them and stayed tucked in until i barrel tagged 2 of them and shot the third 😁

Ive had and used Brass guns as primarys before, I cannot shoot a pistol style very well. Beautiful gun you have though. I may carry one of these Revolvers or Coach gun for fun, but its not to seriously get eliminations. Ive played for long enough to have a basic style/type of gun that I am used to. Ive challenged myself many years ago with SC, Pistols, Talons and the like, but physically Im not able to play that aggressive any more. My brain wants to but my body says, Ummmm no. I may try the .50 first strike balls, something interesting to try.

They are cute but not super effective as you would think they leave tiny marks and you barely feel them with the typical PB padded gear.

          #13
Just not a lot of paint in them they don’t leave much of a mark. They fly pretty good though. They are super expensive to I basically use them as dueling pistols in the backyard. Because the 50’s don’t hurt and my kids are still to young for 68 impacts.

Performance wise, as you've probably gleamed, they're not the best. BUT, if you're looking for a challenge or something different and fun, they're a blast. Don't expect them to perform like an Emek and you won't be disappointed. Once the weather hits 70°+ my coach gun comes everywhere with me, it's a blast and every time you get a kill the player you shot comes up to you and "... did you hit me with that?" It's the best.

Overall I've been pretty happy with my double-barreled Umarex.

It took some experimentation to get it to shoot ~275fps reliably but now it's safe to use. It's still not without its quirks, though- unscrewing the cap holding the cartridge into the butt of the grip can be difficult without using a wrench, even when the marker has been degassed. Rollouts can be a bit of an issue since even in single-barrel mode there's a bit of a puff of gas that's sent down the "off" barrel. In cold weather, barrel breaks can be an issue as paint is blown past the detents. Also, the first one I had broke in half when I slid into a plastic bunker too hard. They're definitely not as robust as, say, a Splatmaster or a Talon. For the record, Umarex replaced the gun for free when I mailed it to them.

Click image for larger version Name:	20200801-181018.jpg Views:	0 Size:	172.4 KB ID:	374993

Still, the fun factor and bragging rights when you actually manage to eliminate someone with this thing is off the charts and makes up for its shortcomings, in my opinion.

I haven't tried any of the other Umarex "shotguns" or pistols. I already have a reliable .50 pistol (Sellswords Kaos) and from what I've read the .68-caliber pump shotgun and SPAS-12 looking thing, as well as the 68-caliber version of their revolver all have major ball breakage issues that haven't been resolved by modifications, and none of them are easy to clean after a barrel break. Maybe with a redesign they'll be ready for actual paintball use but not yet.
