Shocker S/F: To Detent or Not to Detent - Poll

After a full rebuild this thing is actually shooting pretty well, BUT the rotor doesn't play nice with the lack of a ball detent and it pretty consistently double feeds. Should I send it out to have a detent added, or would adding a detent completely ruin the resale/collectors value?

Have you tried turning the torque down on the rotor and underbore?

I'm aggressively underboring. Zero roll outs. Paint is right around 0.680, On my cockers I run the 0.679 insert with no issues. I tested this with the 0.677 insert and it was still double feeding pretty badly. I have the torque turned down as far as I can and still have the rotor feed my faster markers consistently. I like to change guns a lot between games, and the thought of ripping the rotor open and adjusting the tension up or down every time I switch guns is MASSIVELY unappealing.

Really just want to know if adding the detent will completely trash the re-sale of this, and it looks like a very much "no" based on the poll responses so far.

Also just as an FYI, I'm ignoring all the revy votes. I really think there are some "rose colored nostalgia glasses" with them. I have managed to out shoot a revy with a Pro-Lite before....I know the shockers really aren't speed demon's by any stretch of the imagination, but come on, if a Pro-lite can out shoot it....there is just no way it'll be able to keep up with this. Especially with the way I shoot and the Sconi Lean on there. If I'm playing a game and have to worry about my hopper not keeping up, I'm not focusing on playing.

I think revys feed fine. What mode and bps you running the shocker at? I don't think I could out shoot a revy with a singIe trigger shocker on semi myself. l'd probably have a better chance with my double trigger rainmaker or my raptor than any single trigger gun. My slider frame autococker probably hits only 7 maybe 8. I really want to see that Pro-Lite rippin now boy!!! XD

      DM6 has eyes....

It's just the stock board in the shocker, semi @ 10.5 bps.

I'm not crazy fast, but definitely faster then average. I suspect that between blow back up the feedneck, the weird angles I'll find myself holding my gun at, and just the revy being not force feed in the first place, shit just seems to happen and it'll chop. My revy is also one with eyes, not sound activated. It's only happened 2 or 3 times, but it's definitely happened and it's definitely been a chop. When I'm playing semi I just want the paint to definitely be there, and the revy has let me down too many times for me to seriously consider it as a viable option.

Myrkul I totally agree with that. Marker kick/vibration plus blowback can really fuck up a non force fed loader. My only suggestion is maybe a viewloader eggy 2 or a viewloader velocity with the select force board. Maybe on the lowest setting they would work better. I havent owned a rotor in years and never adjusted them once. I still want to see a vid of that Pro-Lite rippin sometime!!! .

I'll see what I can do. Been kicking around the idea of a go-pro for a while now....especially with all the old shit I have that's actually in working condition, it'd be pretty fun to see them in action on the field.

But back to the topic at hand, I know several people that would have zero issues dropping a detent in this and that seems like a much better long term solution. It would be way easier and likely cheaper too. Those eggy shells didn't exactly hold up well over the years and I'd probably have to buy at least 3 to cobble a working one together. And that one would crack after two weekends tops, so best get four or five for spare shell parts, and now a Cocker detent and a friend with a drill press look like a massively cheaper option. I already have tap floating around somewhere in a bin too...

Revvys need a taller ball stack to work imo. I run a brown cham revvy on my 160r as it matches. With the eyes on you can hear an inconsistent cyclic rof as the revvy varies its ability to feed.

I still love them and use them on account they are light and don't block much field of view.

That would drive me absolutely insane. Call it a pet peeve or just me being anal, but if I heard my rof varying based on the feed I'd drop kick the loader.... Probably why I tend to slap rotors on everything and only one of my guns has eyes. Oddly enough, as much as I dislike and distrust my revy, I thoroughly enjoy my old ricochet as just a basic non-force feed loader. Sure the shell is mostly JB weld and truck bed liner at this point, but as long as the paint is large enough to flip the dongle, that loader has treated me really well.

I expected nothing less from you

Nobody seems to care about keeping the SF mint though, so it's getting the detent.

Revy is the way to go on a OG Shocker that’s what I use on my Turbo it helps out a bit on weight as well. I also run a freak back for the roll outs.

As for rarity or collectibility, SP made about a bazillion of those things. Being slow gas-hogs, there's not much demand apart from nostalgia folks, so really, unless you have a particularly fancy one like an Eclipse, there's not much value beyond just a functional marker.

Drill it, mod it, cut it up, do whatever you think it needs to be a better or easier to use marker.

The HK Army Sonic is pretty darn solid & I've yet to outshoot mine. Uses a tongue sensor like the Ricochet & it's not force-feed, yet it keeps up with everything I own. And it's only slightly heavier than a Revvy. There's also the HK/Pinokio Speed & the Valken VMax+.

You don't have to limit yourself to either a Rotor or a Revvy/Eggy you know. And since you change guns frequently you can just leave a hopper on each gun. I typed up a review for the HK Army Sonic in the Reviews It section if you're interested.

I'm pro-detent. Unless you FUBAR the crap out of it there's really no downside. I'm also pro-revvy on shoeboxes

Bolt speed was an issue for me on one of my old V-sports. It needs a slight push to get down the feedneck or the bolt would cycle without feeding. I ended up using a Speed on it cause it's sort of pseudo-force like the Eggy and it worked well. Side feed shoeboxes a revvie has always been fine.

You could always turn your bolt speed up... any idea what your board is set to at the moment?
And God turned to Gabriel and said: β€œI shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

β€œBut Lord,” asked Gabriel, β€œIs this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, β€œJust wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

            Update:

KCCockerDoc added the detent for me, and this bad boy now runs perfectly with a rotor! Zero double feeds, stack clips, barrel breaks, or chops, even when running in full auto!
