    Cocker velocity issues

I have 2 pump cockers, one new to me and one I’ve had for years with no issues. Both are currently facing the same issue of just farting out balls with minimal velocity. FWIW one is a karni and the other is a superbolt.

No amount of adjustment to the reg or IVG is making a difference. Bolts are in correctly. For a bit I thought it was my tank since both are oddly doing the same thing but I used a friend’s tank the other day that he had been using all day and same issue. In one the internals are new and I’ve broken down and reassembled both to no avail. I consider cocker pumps easy but this has me stumped, especially since it’s happening to both.

Any advice is appreciated and I can get a video up in a couple weeks next time I’m at the field and have some air.

It sounds like your hpr is creeping and needs a rebuild.

I did just pickup a rebuild kit so that’ll be the next troubleshooting step. Thanks.

Odd that it’s both at the same time, but happens. My Karni pump decided to start shooting low so decided to do an overdue overhaul and a heart transplant.

Double check the tanks aren’t the dreaded ball valve ones. I have one tank with that and it works on only a couple markers. Otherwise I get low/poor air flow.

Interstingly both tanks I’ve put on them have been the ball valve ones. Passed the karni to a buddy and he said it shot without issue on the tank he had at home. Just strange that I’d never had an issue with the same tank in the past and it’s working fine on other markers. I’m convinced it’s the tank or regs and will update once I’m able to rule both out.

The balls valves were good in principle (I supposed) but bad in practice, thus they stopped making them. ID even made a special ASA plug to work with them. Some asa’s just aren’t long enough to properly depress the ball fully. Really need to convert my tank to the standard pin.

Oh wow I actually do have new ASAs on there too. Feeling like that may be it.

Whenever I suspect that the interface between the ASA and the tank reg might be the culprit, I hook the tank up to a remote. Thereby I can rule out that specific issue, and I can easily check the tank with other markers, if I would in any way suspect that the tank reg had recently developed an issue.

Smart, know I’ve got a remote lying around here somewhere.

I would test the tank output pressure, reg output pressure and if both of those are reasonable then likely a really weak main spring.

I was optimistic, but the remote line was a no go. Still don’t have a reg tester but I’m going ahead and rebuilding the reg as the next troubleshooting step. After that it’ll be a look at the internals.

Just look at how much this poor baby wants to really hit the field again. Lol and before someone says it, I know the macro
      line is absent.

I have this same issue with every sniper I attempted to use a slide frame on.

Yes stock internals. I wish it was the bolt. Definitely fell for that with my first cocker though.

Putting a bucket changer is going to feed it 800 psi plus, and unless it’s an early cocker designed to run high pressure it will lock up and act just like your reg creeped. So I’m not sure swapping a bucket changer actually confirmed anything.

Darn, thanks for pointing that out. I’ve been spoiled by swapping between the two on a Phantom.

set the reg to 325 and the ivg 2 turns in. If it is still low you need a new/stronger main spring.

New spring it is. I’ll report back 🫡

I'm hoping this was checked but we used to screw with teammates and flip the bolt upside down all the time. Is the bolt installed correctly (given it is not one that it does not matter)?

Good call out, but this bolt is non directional.

You don’t have the grip frame screws reversed? Long in the front short in the back.

I’ll double check there’s no issues but I recently cut down the frame screws to accommodate the new slide frame with the recessed slots.

Make sure they aren’t entering the internal bore. It can hang up springs
