Invert Mini Reg Slow Recharge

Rebuilding an Invert Mini that’s been a challenge. Had adjusted the main ref to sit at about 200, but my recharge is horrible. After pulling the trigger it takes about 15 seconds for the reg to recharge. Multiple shots drop the pressure below 100psi, with balls just rolling out the barrel.

Anyone know what my issue is?

Probably the reg seat. Whatever it is you will have to pull apart the reg.

If you do tear the reg down, there use to be a good post about the process on Pbnation. I think the photo links died, but the text should still be there. Check the Empire Axe subforum

I would bet the reg piston is dry and needs some lube.

I’ve dropped some oil into and have let it sit overnight.

On the bottom of the reg there is an air filter it is held in by a silver screw with an allen key. I seem to remember that getting filled with oil but it is a brass filter so if you remove that boil it in water and put it back it should work better.

Got most of it apart, just need to find a 3mm socket. Have down to 4mm…. Used snap ring pliers to remove the pressure vent.

Turns out the Axe needs the 3mm socket, not the Mini (or at least this version of the Mini). Apparently you need to use a pin vise after breaking the loctite.

Oof yeah I forgot some of the earlier regs don't use a socket.

It's okay, the socket set I ordered fits on air barbs as well, which will make my life a lot easier. I've dumped a lot of oil into the reg now and have moved the spring back and forth, so might reassemble and see if it helps with the slow recharge before sourcing a pin vise.

Well, looks like the soaking of oil and moving about the cylinder worked. My Mini reg recharged properly. Now to chase a final small leak and I’m done!

Small leak was eliminated by updating the poppet to the latest version (3.0 I think) that has the spring.

Sorry for necro posting but did you end up finding a pin vise? I have worked on an Invert mini years ago and could not for the life of me figure out how to get the regulator apart. My googling of "pin vise" did not yield anything that looked like it would work.

No, I did not, but I was able to get enough of the reg apart to fix my issue. I’m actually just getting another Mini up and running that had a dead board, so I’ll see how the recharge is on that Mini once I air it up.

I used to own a mini a number of years ago The regulator was one of the largest reasons I sold it

If you don't already have it you may want to consider getting the on-off version of that asa rather than trying to work through this one. For whatever reason empire decided to essentially make that regulator not serviceable by the average end user.
