2k2 Timmy board in gen e matrix?

I would like to upgrade the board in my matrix and have a couple of spare 2k2 intimidator boards. I'm thinking that as long as I can verify if the voltage sent to the noid is the same I should be good right?

Has anyone tried this before? If so what hang-ups should I look out for?

Fitting it in the frame shouldn't be too hard since I have a 3d printer

just throwing it out there, why are you going to replace the board from 2001-2003 with another board from the same era that doesn't already fit?
Have you considered looking at the enoch board or other aftermarket new boards?

I have the gun 12 chip currently. My goal is to make it easier to tune the dwell, the added firing modes are a nice plus as well. And I already have the Timmy board on hand so its "free"

I also have a spare set of break beam eyes from a proto rail that should work with the Timmy board. So if I want I could mod my breach in the future to add eyes

Yeah but as someone whom worked for Gen E back in the day... The harnesses are very different and a free board that needs said harness to work is going to end up costing him more.

Voltage, and more importantly, amperage/wattage supplied to the noid... some solenoids have a pretty large power consumption when cycling.

And, dwell - spoolies and poppets have very different dwell requirements, generally speaking. How much range/adjustment does your Timmy board have?

The timmy manual I found online references a different board then the one I have. That one apparently can go up to 50ms of dwell, mine only goes to 16.5ms so it won't work or would work poorly.


I don't have a harness but I do have wire, a soldering iron, and connectors that i can make work. Not that it matters now tho.

Yeah, I've run into that myself a few times... stock boards can be tough to make functional in non-stock applications.

Is the button configuration the same, compared to the LED board? I seem to recall a couple of buttons in a different position than a stock Gun12 board.

Aaah.... Diablo board. Yeah different spacing

the lcd board has more two buttons, one of which might line up with the led hole on my frame. At least one hole would have to be drilled to make it fit properly.

for people in the future, here is the info I found before giving up

1. The matrix solenoid part number is vqz1151K-9g-x86 i couldn't find the voltage but did find the how to order section of the datasheet which mentions the operating voltage but doesn't have data on our exact part number
2. 

The noid in my 2k2 has the part number of HEA10FS-GL-101W and states on the label that its rated for 5v. On the label in small print on the bottom right it says 42H not sure what this means but hey it could be useful idk.

Forgot something: someone on pbnation found the part number for just the coil part of the matrix noid. ill paste it here just in case something bad happens to pbnation

I find most of the small solenoids like that are going to run at 5V. Does the timmy board have anti FSDO? That would be my biggest concern about putting the board in a spool valve gun.

The first batch of OG Matrix boards didn't either, IIRC.

I do believe you are correct as I remember a lot of matrix owners firing 3-4 shots into the ground before the start of every speedball game.
