Can someone help me identify this body?

So this came in a box of Spyders, so I naturally assumed it was a Spyder body, and it had a laminated M16 grip that had peeled too bad to read any model name from, but the detent is much longer than normal, the ASA is secured from the sides, not to bottom, and it has marks on the top from where a sight rail was on it. I can't find any model online that seems to have this sort of retention for the ASA though so now I am doubting it is a Spyder at all. It fits a fatty striker, and has proper Spyder barrel threads.

I notice on my Spyder body that looks almost exactly like this (but uses a slim striker) and has the shorter ball detent, and it also has two lines milled in near the barrel which this lacks, that one had a gripframe that said Spyder Compact 2000, which further make me suspect this might not be an actual Spyder.

That is a first generation Kingman Spyder Compact. The first ones had the long detent cover, two side holes to secure the vasa, and a classic fatty striker. This was my first marker, still have it somewhere.

Nice, so it is an actual Spyder, how is the detent, is it a little rubber "feeler" or is there a wire or something under that long cover? I am going to have to find a solution to getting a detent on it, because now I have to get it going because I have never seen on like this before.

It was the nubbin I believe. Just sort of sandwiches between the detent cover and the receiver.

They use the classic Spyder nubbin style detents with a cover plate (as seen in my pic). Now the plate for these is the "long" version. About the time they introduced the slim striker, they shotened the detent cover plate length. I say "sometime" as I have a fatty striker Spyder classic that has a short detent cover.

Nubbins detents can be found easily at various vendors. Short plastic detent covers aren't too hard to locate (metal ones are harder to find). The long detent cover...good luck? I know someone designed a 3d printable detent cover, not sure if there is a long version STL file out there to make your own.

Pic of nubbin inside the long detent cover and size comparison with a Spyder Shutter short detent cover. As a note I seem to have a metal long detent cover, so I guess they exist.

Oh, nice, so it looks like I just have to 3d print a new cover and I can fit a detent in there, or better yet I think I have a scrap piece of brass I could cut and grind into shape for it.

OpusX what I wanted to do with it, will mean it will have a brass ram sleeve visible though the side cocking slot, and I will have some brass covers on the grip frame, and a brass LPR on the front, I figure at this point I should buy a brass barrrel and detent and just go with it as a theme

Found the 3d printed model but it is the short cover style.

This is the two screw Spyder detent holder. I rotate it 180 degrees and print with supports touching the buildplate because it bade the outside look better. My original part broke.ao here I am. I hope it's usefull. I would love to hear from you if it helps...

I think I uploaded both versions in the STL repository in the 3D printing sticky threads on here. They are also in the Kingman sticky threads about detents.

I didn’t post them on any of the 3D printing websites because bah humbug. If someone wants them, they can join our lovely community here.

Your body is indeed an early "two hole Compact" as they are called. Yours is black and has the smaller feedneck which makes it a later model. The earliest ones would have been grey only and would have the larger feedneck.

Taso made a front block for these which allows the use of an LPC.

Additionally, you mentioned the lack of rings at the breach. Rings present always mean the body is a slim striker body.

Good call on that. Another fun subtle change they made through all the revisions of Spyders.

Doc makes an extended (slightly longer) version of the Spyder nubbin detent available on his ebay store if your field has small paint. It works really well, I would highly recommend it.

havent seen one of those in awhile.

years and years ago i want to collect one of every spyder model. it become overwhelming and i bailed.
the 2 rings on the front - slim striker
wide mouth feedneck - old old old
usually paired with a "hinged trigger" - again, really old.
long detent cover - pretty old but not as old lol
            fatty strikers - kindda old
and then theres the daddy of 1st gens, the "choker spyder".

i wish the serialized the markers. there are SO MANY differences along the Spyder lineage even though they reused allot of parts and pieces.

anything else interesting ion that box-o-Spyders? lol

Found this, though I believe it's for the shorter size.

Genuine Kingman Spyder factory replacement ball detent cover that fits the SPYDER 2000; SPYDER AGGRESSOR XT; COMPACT; COMPACT DELUX; SONIX (early model); and the SPORT. No mounting screws or detents included. Constructed out of plastic. Color is black.

So there was a field BST day and I wanted an automag, I had arrived right as a the guy selling a classic mag was packed up and he told me $100 for the box of parts he was pretty sure it had an automag in it. It turns out it did which is where my classic mag came from (it was old enough just to be a .68 automag it doesn’t say classic on the valve), however the box had lots in it.

a bob long millennium with a stripped out valve screw, in a splash too,I got it working but then I tore it back apart but I will do something special with it.

in addition to this fatty striker body and the nearly stencil slim striker version. There was a silver fatty striker body, a blue Spyder Victor body, a Green Victor II, 3 M-16 grip frames 2 45 frames, a nice bob long frame, tons of internal components for way more spyders than makes sense

there were also weird things like some extreme rage armbands, very old Indian Springs pods which went nicely with my Indian Springs harness, squeegees tons of barrels and much more.

I suppose the mystery box was a fun purchase
