    Building/tuning a STBB

    So I have a few STBB's that I want to put together and tinker with, my question is is a spring kit and running a reg worth it and do volumizers make any difference, or should I just run stock springs

    I also want to build a single trigger electro out of my pile of junk is there a STBB frame that is better then the rest as far as modes and such, working off a regular 9v is a must

    I'm sure others will weigh in with better details...

    At 800psi volumizers are moot. With regs and high flow valves, the front block design (or port diameter in that front block) and volumizer size matter. I got a Millenium reliable well under 300psi because it had both a wide open front block (2x 1/4" holes), and a big volumizer. Same vol on a Spyder Compact 2000? Useless because the front block port was 1/8" diameter. I never did much with springs, just got lucky with stock springs usually.

    For 9v use, there are guys who sell bigger capacitors to make it work well on a stock board.

          300 is extremely low for a STBB. With a balance valve, probably possible. Without, I see a lot of headaches. Maybe possible but I don't really see an equivalent benefit proportional to the amount of work that would take.

          Without a balance valve I would say 600 would be my low end. I wouldn't really tune with the hammer spring, what I would do is set the velocity adjuster in the middle of it's travel and then try springs until I figure out which one gets me closest to 285 without moving the velocity adjuster yet. That way I know I have room to adjust up and down from there.

            Ok, I only ask about the reg because I got an older fish that came with a pmi reg and the new style Electra's came with regs as well

                I've built a couple Spyders.

                The lowest operating pressure I managed was with a Vs2 balanced valve and an intimidator front block, that gun hits velocity and cycles great @ 235 PSI.

                My favorite Spyder so far is just a good old BL millennium with a gas through and the weakest springs I could find. I always end up using the black warrior valve spring and then just whatever main spring is needed to hit field velocity.

                Keep in mind that the lighter you can get a main spring on a Spyder, the better the trigger feels.

                  Yeah in general those are higher pressure regs. The spyder stuff will regulate at 850 so if you plug a HPA tank into it that is 800 it's not actually doing anything

                  I had one of those pmi regs I bought on clearance. First time I put air in it all the o rings came out of all the seams as a liquid. That was fun to clean up

                    I'm doing up an E99 right now with a similar goal in mind. I've got a spring kit and an EKO valve on the way. I've also removed the bolt venturi to promote flow. I want to get it shooting as gently as possible without adding a regulator. I've been meaning to do a build thread to share my results but am out of paint currently.

                    For the bettery I've been using a usb rechargeable li-ion 9v for testing. No issues so far.

                    It will eliminate pressure spikes when you are using CO2.

                    They are really more designed around CO2 anyway which is typically putting out 900 or so, so in that case they are still regulating

                        It's the stock valve out of later Spyders. The valve pin is designed in such a way to allow more flow and blowback is provided via a small hole in the valve rather than the valve pin. My hope is to increase volume/flow so therefore I can use lighter springs/striker.

                          Interesting, I noticed most of my valves have holes in them instead of the slot milled into the pin, but I like piranhas and stay away from the part specific Spyders lol

                          Is it possible to enlarge the blowback hole in the valve for better performance

                          I don't know why you would do that. Blow back only impacts recoil force, that's it. You want that number to be as low as possible and still function. Lighter bolts, pulled out venturi's, polished internals, all of those lean into needing less blow back. Drilling out that hole is a step in the wrong direction.
