    Smart Parts tank on/off

    I just got this in the mail from ANS and I’m looking at it and I can’t figure out where the air is going to go once the tank is hooked up lol. I can’t see a hole or anything. Is this defective? It looks like like air port was never machined. I thought I’d ask here first before asking for a refund

          I did lol. It’s still occluded. I take it that the knob is supposed to open the port? If that’s the case it’s probably a simple fix right?

          When I turn the knob the air port doesn’t open but if I look down the tank end I can see the knob turning back and forth. So something isn’t catching

              The kmob should do a quarter turn. Pretty sure there should be a groove in it allowing air through at one position. So you blow through ot and turn the knob both ways, nothing??

                    It’s moving air! I guess these old eyes aren’t seeing the hole.

                    My wife walked in while I was giving it a blow. Cupping the threads and everything. Now I got some splainin’ to do

                          How are the threads on those? Do they chew into your tank reg like the old SP On/Off ?

                              Thread chewing isn't the fault of the On/Off Threads, and, this is the old SP On/Off you're referring to. This On/Off was designed under the premise that most tourney players keep their tank on gun and refill it while it's on the gun.

                              The only thing this On/Off was meant to do was cut air from the rest of the gun (for maintaining the gun). The problem is that as soon as you screw the tank in, the whole ASA is filled with 850PSI (or more) and the threads are being pushed by it. Now what do most players do? They just straight unscrew all the way until the o-ring clears and the ASA vents. This introduces a ton of friction that Aluminum isn't suited for so, it wrecked a bunch of threads. Brass threads would do better (but folks wanted lighter tanks). Steel threads would wear the ASA instead.

                              The proper way to do it is to actually leave the ASA on (open), turn the tank a bit, fire shots, rinse and repeat until it's clear the gun isn't getting more air and then you should be able to screw it the rest of the way without difficulty. Sounds troublesome (it's actually more old-school, like CO2) but, again it wasn't something that was to be done very often.

                                  Some of them were machined poorly. At least from the sample size that I've seen. But i get what you are saying.
