    anodizable tippmann bodies?

My Googlefu is incredibly weak right now. But I was talking with a buddy about tippmanns, and we both seem to remember that the metal in the 98 and a5 not taking anodization very well. Which got us thinking about aftermarket bodies, especially if there were any made out of machines aluminum or the like. Figured I would see if the MCB hive mind has any intel

Yeah, we talked at length about this roughly 2 years ago if my memory is right. I can't remember the exact reason why but the conclusion was they won't take the anno

Not AKA, but J&J. Has a built in RT ram, but I didn't bother to hook it up since I was building a mag fed and the shorty mags would just get used up too fast.

Thanks for the input. So looks like we got aluminum frames but not bodies, for it.

Definitely knew it was the kind of dumb crazy thing, but sometimes that's what nostalgia is looking for.

Tippmann clamshell bodies are basically "pot metal", which makes it impossible to get good results when attempting to anodize them.
                  I can haz feedback?

I think it is the zinc or lead content in the metal that won't let it conduct the electrical current used in anodizing process.

                  Annodizable: Pro-Am, Pro-lite, 68-Carbine, Pro-Carbine.

Source: My Bonzai Splash 68 Carbine

Not annodizable: 98 and later. Those prefer Powder coat, and "Full Retard" levels of hand sanding and hand filing.

                  Source: My 98s.

Rattle can/painting/cerokote always ends up chipping and flaking after heavy play. powder coat holds up wayyy better, but still isn't as good as anno. The last good Tippmann was the Pro-carbine.

I sold my tippmann 98 custom before it was a thing. But i remember seeing pictures and articles online. It darkened the paint but not all uniform so it had a light/dark fade everywhere or kinda patina look. Some people also had results where the paint would have hairline cracks kind of like a splash anno but with cracks. it definitely gave a unique look. almost like a rat rod or antique look. I wish i would have done it back then. Maybe i'll buy one for cheap and try it sometime
