In the barrel, no idea. But as others have stated, if it worked, they would sell it to paintballers at 3x the cost and there would be several brands I'm sure.
The real question, does it actually help when you get gogged? I feel like it does a little bit. Good for respawn games, or long walks off the field.Comment

I bet ceramic coating would hold up a lot better. I don’t break paint enough to make it worth my time to try it. But they make a top coat Ceramic spray for cars that you could spray on let it sit for 10min the spray off. Nothing sticks to it just driving your car in the rain makes it look like you just detailed it. I haven’t touched the paint on my NSX in 5+ years. I wet it with a hose and leaf blow it off.
RainX is basically glorified Carnauba wax in liquid form.Comment

On the topic of barrel coatings, I remember reading in the F-1 Illustrator manual (when I bought my Illustrator from Cdn_Cuda) that FASTech recommended thoroughly washing the barrel after a day's play (even if you didn't break a ball) to combat gelatin/oil buildup and to put a thin layer of silicone grease in the barrel - for the same reasons some people recommend Rain-X. despite being a 90s-era player I'd never heard of people doing anything like this at all.
I guess file me in the "if it had worked, someone would have monetized it by now" camp, but I'm curious if it would have any effect at all. (shrug) Maybe something to try the next time I'm at the field.
Regarding JeeperCreeper 's comment about masks and coatings, I do remember players doing all sorts of stuff with various coatings both on the inside and outside of masks, both to avoid fogging and to more easily remove paint residue from the lens. Everything from spit to wax was tried. I also remember spitting in the inside of my mask to combat fogging - not so sure it helped at all, but...people did it.
Watching people do that with rental masks was a big reason why my first paintball purchase was my own mask, because, well....ewww.Comment

Saliva contains mucin (a glycoprotein) and other surfactants that act like a very mild detergent. These molecules lower the surface tension of the water droplets. When surface tension is reduced, the droplets spread out into a thin, continuous film instead of forming beads. A thin transparent film is far less noticeable than lots of tiny fog droplets so the lens looks clearer. -
And here I am thinking I wouldnt see or read the word surfactants today. This forum amazes me everyday.
