    What compressor do you use?

Ok. I've never been a fan of desktop compressors but I have a local guy thinking about getting one and figured I'd get him some info.

So, if you have a small desktop compressor, which one, what do you think about it, anything it needs regularly

If you were buying today would you change anything?

I have the GX CS4 but if I was to do it again I would buy the knock off one since GX don’t really sell parts to fix them. People are resorting to buying the knock off version to repair them. If it were me I would just buy the knock off version. One of the members was selling them dirt cheap. I forgot who re branded them but looking at it. It’s the same thing at 1/4 the price. They are cheap enough that when it comes time for a rebuild you can just get another brand new one and keep the old for extra parts. You could do that 2-3x and still come in cheeper then GX.

I purchased the Tuxing and it died within a month. Purchased another brand similar to Tuxing for a little more $ and it pumped moisture into my bottles. Got the GX CS4 and it is well worth the Extra $. The set up and maintenance is not much in comparison to the lower noise levels and faster filling time you will get over the lower cost ones! I also purchased the GX Pump Filter after the moisture problem with the other one. I fill 68/4500 bottles 5-6 times a week with about 15 min per fill with no stops. Zero issues so far.

I grabbed a Vevor that was on sale in December. I observed the fill capacity limits and did my best to warm and cool it properly but it started to lose its ability to compress about two weeks ago. One YouTube comment saved my bacon - silicone oil. I squeezed a bunch into the intake until it started to goop out the outlet. As the valves worked themselves free, the compression came back. Now it seems to work better than new and I’ll figure out an oiling schedule.
I told my wife I’m going to grab a Hill when this pump dies. I guess I should have let it die..

I used to limit myself to 3,000psi. After the cleaning, I run the tanks up to 4,500psi in increments. The temperature gauge has never exceeded 30°C.

I have the Spritech 4500 PSI compressor. I've filled my 48/3k tank about 4 times now and it's done a fine job.

I did notice on the second to last fill that it was spitting out a lot of moisture at the pressure relief valve. I started pumping air without a tank attached and it was shooting water out. Switched out the filter inside the fill hose and that seems to have corrected that behavior.

I'd imagine there is an uncontrollable amount of moisture accumulating inside the pump simply because there is no filter at the inlet, only the outlet. I plan on disassembling it after another fill or two to see what's going on and if it's causing any premature damage that will shorten the lifespan. It was a $160 compressor so I have my expectations set accordingly.

Well that's not good. I have a Tuxing on the way. Maybe i can figure out what the failing points could be, or fix it at work if mine also dies. Won't be filling anything over 36ci, at least.

Does anyone have experience with the larger Yong Heng compressors that use water buckets for cooling?

Also, I'm seeing that a lot of people purchase inline filters that go downstream of these compressors, and people often disassemble the filters and pack them with beads from desiccant packets.

Apart from the safety issues, I do wonder if it would be a lot more efficient to filter before compression, since you would be having to pressurize the filter and all its plumbing to 3000 or 4500psi before any bottle filling actually gets done.

I've had one for 4-5 years now. It works really well. It does get really warm and does require the cooling bucket. Some of the groups on FB have elaborate setups with coolant and multiple filters, but i just use water and ice(sometimes). Ive got a condensation filter and a paper filter on mine. You need additional filters. These things create a bunch of moisture. It will fill a 77/4500 in ~12 min.

Do you have a link to or picture of the filter you're using?
They seem to vary greatly in size and cost.

RPP I'd be interested to see your setup as well. I do like my scuba setup I have but if I ever need to switch to a compressor setup that's probably the route I would go

Thats very similar to the condensation "filter" I have.
