TiPX - Question on Modifying Stock Breech for FSR

It appears if you square off the back side of the existing breech loading hole, and take that cut to centerline of the bore, there will only be about .050-.070” thickness of shoulder land remaining on the bottom half of the bore for the bolt spring. Is that .050-.070” enough to withstand the repeating forces of the bolt cycling, or will it wear/peen/bend?

I measured full spring compression at about 21 lbf, so I want to say yes, but I’m concerned about the repeat impulse of spring steel on aluminum.

    Thanks.

    Do it.

Honestly what do you have to lose? If it doesn't work you will still need a new breach to run fsr.

Either it works and you learned something while saving money or it doesn't and you learn something and are still in the same boat you are right now

      Fair point.

I have a lot planned for this TiPX.

      1. FSR breech
      2. My version of a Stop-Shot / Lok-Bolt
      3. Two stage bolt acceleration. This should stop all the breaks with mid-grade paint (maybe even better if the paint can withstand mag spring force). This is also the first half of my “TiPX Level 10”.
      4. Dual use manual purge pin out back of marker. This serves two purposes.
      A. If the bolt stops on something (projectile or stop block), if you hold the trigger back, and press the purge pin, it vents the shot air trapped in the powertube. This is the second half of the “TiPX Level 10”, since it’s not automatic like on an Automag Level 10. I figured out a couple automatic vent designs, but it greatly complicates things. Maybe down the road.
      B. With the trigger forward, it will vent the source air. Not too useful when attached to CA, but no more having to shoot the 12g dry those last 3-4 weak shots until you can get the front cap off.

It all looks good on CAD, but let’s see what reality has in store. Just waiting on parts. May need some iterations to get it right.

Why do people want the loc bolts? I've never understood that. Just seems like it's complicating a marker with no real benefit

I disagree. I copied/modified an existing 3d print design for my EMF100. I’ve heard it save me enough times to be worth it, and it’s never caused problems. It’s also good for the mags without the followers that stop the bolt when the mag is empty.

I chopped enough with my old TiPX to want to try to make one. I’m just not ready to spend $80 on the MCS one. Maybe if I get my TiPX Level 10 working and I can’t get my breech figured out.

I maintain my mags very well, but it still seems they hiccup occasionally, leading to chops if no bolt stop is present. Unlike a hopper that hiccups, mags don’t have gravity working with them to finish loading the ball.

I think I saw you (at least I think it was you) chime into that effect on an older thread, which is another reason I’m going this route.

If it has issues with FSR, what are they? FSR flipping in mag? Breaks? Chops?

              Thanks.

flip and break in the breach, the 7 round mags are great, but he last rounds doesnt load, the 12rd are also great. never had much luck with the zeta, but a buddy of mine liked them.
i didnt have a mill at that time, so i did it on the drill press with an endmill, doesn't have to be too precise ...

Oh ok it's to prevent chops from misfeeds. That's the part nobody has ever explained to me. I was thinking it was to prevent you from dry firing which seemed kind of dumb

I run an EMF with cf20 mags and have not had really any misfeeds. I had one mag that for a little caught up a few times but it was always caught without pushing a round halfway in. After I figured out what was going on I tore that mag apart, did a little clearance work and cleaned it really well. All my other mags have been gone through and cleaned and all the screws loc tight in place. At supergame I ran 11 mags and didn't have a single misfeed.

Well, if you mess it up, I’ll just throw you my old TPX for like $50, whenever we’re at the field, lol. Just need to get ahold of Tippmann to get those TiPX upgrade parts that they said they still have.

I was still considering yours. It was a balance of a used TPX with the cost of TiPX upgrades vs. another used, already-upgraded TiPX. I'll be out there Saturday. We can talk more then.

When I called Tippmann about it, the tech said they wouldn’t charge for the upgrade, since they were free when they first offered them. So it would just be the cost of shipping, or driving it down to Ft Wayne yourself.

I’m also out of town for the 4th, but I’ll see you the weekend after if you’re out there. Unless you want to come work on the woodsball field with me when I get back the middle of next week, haha.

To be fair to the mags, a handful of times, it was very oval shaped paint.

Where did you do the clearance work? On the follower tabs and tracks that they ride in?

That's the next thing I'll look at. For now, in addition to keeping them clean and screws snug, I find that taking out the string/spring, and making sure the spring is as free/not twisted in its most fully extended state as possible between the notched wheel and follower helps a lot.

When they did hiccup before I had the bolt stop installed, it was about 50/50 whether the ball was half in the breech or not at all. About half the time, it would dry fire; the other half, it would chop.

                    A little on both.

My setup is built to run fsr only. I've never put round ball through it and never plan to
