Best way to remove adhesive

Hi I just picked up an Apex barrel and the thing was covered in camo tape. I took the tape off but all the adhesive is still on the barrel. What's the best adhesive remover?

You can start with Isopropyl 70% alcohol or higher %
its usually good to remove adhesive and will not cause issue on the ano

I should note I tried goo gone and zippo fluid and they barely touch it

I've used brake cleaner in the past, with a toothbrush or similar scrubbing tool with soft bristles.

Ditto, brake cleaner has worked best for me when acetone or alcohol have failed.

Interesting brake cleaner would work where straight acetone failed. Brake cleaner’s primary chemical is acetone. Also if it is painted, you don’t want to go vigorously with acetone. It will eat through clear coat and paint if you use too much or rub the coated area too much.

Brake cleaner wont take off the black finish? I'm going to try some alcohol first, but this stuff is pretty tough

I use Kleen up 1000 (kinda like MEK), but use soft shop towels. Itll smear, then get a clean towel area and itll stick to the towel.


Also, and dont judge me. Your skins oil works the best. I have oily skin, and Ive wiped my finger tips on my nose to get labels off in a pinch before.

Goo off works great, whatever it is. Maybe its kerosene. It works great.

Brake cleaner pretty mild. Brake fluid will ruin your life.

It takes some real harshness to hurt anodizing, chemically.

Brake fluid works well to strip powdercoating.

Wd40, diesel , kerosene ect or sometimes some of those citrus based degreasers work well

Paper towel covered in acetone wrap the barrel for a minute then wipe it off
rinse and repeat

I find that Goo Gone gel, plus ten minutes, is way better than goo gone and not waiting.

I have this citrus oil stuff called "contractor's friend" that's awesome on tape, too.

Citric acid has taken pine tar off my hands and tools when WD40 failed.

This is the best stuff. Been using it for 20 years to clean paintball gear. Its the only stuff to remove the "bad" paint from guns and barrels.

You can also try just normal oil.

Pro Tip for anything that is totally impervious to SOAP, try the opposite of soap, OIL. Like tree sap.

No guarantees on your stickers though.
