Best way to prevent tarnish on brass parts

Any mild acid can be used to prematurely petina brass. In particular white vinegar in a spritz bottle to help get a mottled look. Yellow mustard the basic cheap kind works real well too. You can use mustard to paint on in various patterns then spritz down with white vinegar to get interesting results. If you tightly wrap parts with mesh and apply mustard you can get "scale-like" appearance.
