I had a Nitro-Z years ago. I think I gave it to Chappy? I feel like that was forever ago. That was back when co2 was still easy to get, and HPA seemed like a downgrade.
I was hoping Bacci would put up his Bullpup Montneel, or one of his Falcons. Those I was trying to buy 15 years ago or so, and he swooped in and bought them up.
Fair play though. Collecting is cut-throat sometimes
Not me. I did end up getting one from Frankthetank. Its a Z1 with the dimestack but it's in pretty damn fine shape. Needs a reg or a tank set around 800. Seems to sweetspot around 825 so it creeps up on a full tank then drops back down.
I prefer the low pitched thump of a z on liquid to the high pitched crack of one on HPA, but as you said, the CO2 struggle is real these days.
I did have the “kit” at one point, maybe you gave me that? I dunno I think I traded it to back for some parts or towards the z I traded to Nish… so many have come and gone lol.
The one from the factory was… unique. Well it was probably off the shelf parts of some sort but I’ve never seen something so simple as a volumizer be so complicated.

-Well, it IS a little tricky. The big issue is the VASA. You have to be able to fit that to the body, it can't be twisted or screwed into place, etc. That requires an odd fitting- which I haven't yet fully figured out- to make the connection.
However, this is a case where we just need to recreate the idea- it's not a restoration, the part doesn't have to be identical and numbers-matching to the originals. (In any case, it looks like the air port is slightly offset on the Nitro-Z setups, rather than centered like the Mega-Z air lines. I'm going to need something that can directly retrofit to Megas.)
Not sure what you mean on the offset airport but a mega z airline and a nitro z dimestack are interchangeable. A nirtro and a mega z are identical other then the airline and composition of the valve and hammer
Brain fart on my part. In the pic of Bacci's Nitro, the outlet from the VASA is offset towards the front, and I thought I recalled the outlet on my Mega to be centered. Nope, it's offset towards the front too- to help add clearance for the center mounting screw.
Engage brain before opening mouth.
Anyway, that'll make it easy, if I can use my existing gun to fit a volumizer.
The other option was the "Marcus Z". Before the Nitro-Z, the former owner of Montneel who left to form his own company, started offering "nitro conversion services" for the Mega-Z.
The result was similar- Hogged out valve, and volumizer added to size. But originally it was added to the left side, with a hole being drilled to accommodate.
My understanding was it worked just fine, but got the reputation as a 'cheater device'. Much like the smart-box for the automag had a similar reputation, but for the life of me, I don't remember why it had that reputation. Maybe if you used it with co2 instead of hpa, it would allow you to flood the valve with liquid?
Iirc it had a quick disconnect or one could be installed. Then you could take it off, use with co2 to flood the valve and get hot. But when the ref came to chrono you put on the empty volumizer and the liquid in the valve expanded dropping the fps. Of course I learned I’m this from your website so if you don’t know I can’t confirm lol.
I think I remember reading about this before. If you used a non-siphon CO2 tank, you could tip the barrel down, fire a few times and flood the valve with liquid. Then you could get a couple hot shots before it filled again with gaseous CO2.
