So what we are saying is we have interest lol… I’d say do like slims a/t guns are allowed but don’t use a/t please… I’d also like to say I want to see this be competitive yet stick to E.L.E. (Everybody love everybody) if another team is down a player and you have a extra guy help them if someone marker is down and you have a extra help them then worry about winning!

What about a paint limit? Not sure if it’s worth the extra effort to enforce, just a thought

My input after many years of adult leagues and adult tourneys is that the 2 most important things are…

The official name of the Tourney should have some crazy grandiose over the top name. Along the same lines that all American sports that are more or less only played in the US all are World Championships.

The second important thing along the same line is an interesting and distinctive prize “trophy” . For example, a very famous and large pond hockey tournament I have frequented out west the prize is a Golden Shovel.

Novelties such as the above proposed always make the event a tad bit more fun and competitive . When as adults will any of us have the opportunity to compete in a “world championship” , I say we just make our own. NE World Stock Class Championships or something of the sort.

A creative name and goofy cool prize might get a bit more draw from distance as apposed to the Weare NH SC shootout etc. I have put more $$ into sweet team uniforms, gloves, and helmets and travel to win a golden shovel and similar tournaments than I have for birthday presents of family members.

So back in the day we did a local 3 man pump street ball style. Prizes were shitty beer covered in duck tape and spray painted bronze silver and gold taped up like a pyramid. First place also got three pairs of new socks.

I’m in. Regardless of rules. Honestly we got enough north East pump players we could run one any given get together. Random teams 5 dollar buy in winner takes all we grab drinks an d food after like we usually do.

How about $5 buy in winning team buys the first round after randomly drawn teams, you can have AT just don’t use it.

        Everybody wins…

Air Ball field- or Frequency - close to the porta potties.
No limit on paint or feed style
        No At, please
        Street ball
Mid day prize, which will be some heinous costumes purchased from amazon.
Random draw as to which team has to wear the costume for the rest of the day.
        Cool, ESPN Ocho approved name.
        More shenanigans
Evening break for cocktails and Smoking Jackets/House coats
Next day we all play walk-ons.

Maybe we should have some ridiculous House Coats and slippers as prizes that we award every year, kinda like green jackets for golf people.

We also should get the $600 together to pay for Professional photos through Jmac

Greater West Coast World SC Championships of NE… let’s poke everyone.

All joking aside in the coolness category for the Prize I feel it should be something legit Platinum Fleece ( aka bath Robes possibly embroidered with winners on back ) or something not junky. Can be goofy, but if you make it something good it will draw. Like a green jacket in Golf.

I would fly to CA to play in a tournament in any sport where one can win a world championship embroidered silver bathrobe !

Reserve the Slippers for a Tourney Sales Booth. That way everyone has a chance to get a cool memento and if you win you can have a matching set. Will drive friendly competition.

To elaborate on what HeavyC said, 3v3 pump ball… I’m grabbing my two guys off the break and charging the flag and then charging the opposite base for the win before the opposition even realizes what happened.

We did a similar tactic, affectionately named “operation meat shield” one year. Each team had four tubes and had to drop them in a center bucket. A long narrow field. The plan was simple, give Jonnydread the tubes and everyone else just run in front of him shooting. Needless to say, the tubes were in the bin and the other team stood there confused as could be- not knowing what just happened. We won.

MEAT SHIELD. That worked weirdly well.

I like the idea of paint limits, seems like a nice way mitigate the A/T argument.

I played a 3 man last summer that had a 40 round limit and points for both flag pull and hang. Can't remember how many, but say 25 for a pull and 75 for a hang.

As a veteran player who briefly played tourneys for a few years and event organizer, there is a reason I will never host a tournament. I will offer one piece of advice however,... the second you introduce money or high-ticket merch in the prize structure, you're setting yourselves up for problems. If the goal is to organize more competitive play, but keep the whole event fun, then the prize structure should be kept fun as well. The suggestions to have ridiculous trophies or tongue-in-cheek gag gifts as awards is hilarious and absolutely the right way to go here. When financial gain is used as an incentive to win, it brings out the worst in people. I've seen it happen way too many times to know it's true, and I'm sure you have too.

In regard to players never getting lit up and bonus balled by an AT pump... I've lost track of how many times I've taken multiple unnecessary AT hits during pump play back in the day. This is why I don't allow AT at my events now. While I'm glad others may not have experienced this type of poor sportsmanship, and I realize that pump play has certainly evolved from where it was in the inception of the game, a "no AT" rule is still a factor worth considering if you're trying to ensure good sportsmanship.

EDIT: It's important to note that I don't think ANY of the pump players who attend my events, or who are part of the local pump scene will ever intentionally engage in poor sportsmanship. My concerns above are not directed at any of you. My concerns about auto-triggering and/or having cash/financial gain in a prize structure are for the players who we don't know, or who are coming from a different scene that want to try out this event. It's the players who are unfamiliar with the core group or who no one knows that are the ones who will often create the problems. Just another hard lesson I've learned over the years. The rules at my events are written with these "x-factor" players in mind.

I’m going to try my best to keep it silly fun and competitive… I think paint limits per game is the best way to keep down rate of fire but we can always tweek things as we go I appreciate your input and I might pick your brain at some point if that’s cool.

Certainly. I'm currently writing a handbook on how to organize stock class events, which should be completed by early next year. While it's primarily intended for recreational play and doesn't address tournaments, the basic info is applicable to any paintball event. I'm also available to discuss questions on a call before the book is ready as well.
            Working...
