    September 17 Pump Meetuup

    Hello everyone,

Going to give this another shot. This time at Wolverine Paintball up in NC. our generous William the Third said he could make sure that if we wanted we could even have some pump only games.

Let's spread the word and get a good turn out!

Bring those 3.5oz tanks. This place fills CO2 tanks.

I am talking to my wife about a trip up to Asheville/Hickory for a long weekend in conjunction so that will help my odds of attending. It has been years since I played up to Wolverine (played a couple of scenarios) it would be great to get out there again and if it is still the same property great for woodsball (my favorite)

Sadly not the same property. 2008 forced a downsize, and a refocusing of business (primarily birthday parties and bachelor groups these days), so we're now across the street from where you played. We used to have like 64 acres, now we have like 6 acres (and that's including non-playing areas like the staging area, etc). Still have a decent, though smaller, woodsball field. We'd like to move back to the old property, since the new owners aren't really using it, but they don't appear interested. We still have the same owner, John Benedict, but these days his son, Mikey, and I typically run the front end.

Understandable but sad, there definitely was room "to get lost" on the old property. I did look up the field on Maps and I was thinking I remember being on the other side of the road especially when I say the large metal building. I am still interested in coming up a playing though. When we started Paintball Charleston I think we were around 8 acres and still had good games in the woods. It is mostly about how you use the assets you have the games you play.

Seems like some locals at the field are excited about this and might try to make a big deal out of it. Let's try to get a good turn out.

I am a definite, wife and I are going up for a long weekend with me playing on Sunday the 17th. While I was at our PBC pump day I mentioned it to some of the dedicated pumpers from the low country and they are interested in coming up. Pretty sure 2 are coming up but maybe as many as 5.

Someone should post reminders of that here or Facebook so I stop forgetting when it happens. It's a drive for sure but I'd do it again.

Will do, it was a surprisingly good set of games for the heat and humidity today. The general rule is the last Sunday of the month, the next one is 27th of Aug right now. I'll get you an invite to the FB group for this game.

I got asked some questions about this game from the low country crew:
        • Private group or intermixed with renters? (I assume might be dependent upon participation)
        • What are the paint choices? (they are used to a BYOP option and good selection at the field)
        • 20 ft rule and bunker rule; if we are private can these be ignored?
        • All pumps, stock, modified stock? I assumed all pumps but thought I should check. They do not often play stock class.

All paint must be broken by hand on the lenses of your enemy to be counted....

No, the intent was for any pump gun. The rest of your questions a clumsily hand you over to William the Third... Because I'm just a nobuddy trying to get people to shoot at him.

Will be intermixed with everyone there, but we will get some pump only games going. It is possible, but very unlikely, this will be a "pump only" day. It depends on the reservations.

Paint will likely be Empire Premium, possibly GI 3-Star. No BYOP option, but if you've got a request, we might be able to fulfill it.

For insurance reasons, I am required to publicly state that within 20 feet behind someone is a mandatory surrender (call out "point-blank"), and bunkering isn't allowed (physically tagging the bunker eliminates all players behind it).

          As per Nish, any pump.

Grendel I get where you are coming from. I totally get why fields dont count gun hits. The arms and legs thing is something I just can't wrap my head around enough to follow. I accept it and expect people at those fields to play by those rules, but if someone catches me in the shin or hand, sorry team I'm out.
If you can get within 20ft of me and shoot me I promise not to tell the insurance company. All I ask is that you give me the dignity of only killing me once. Lol

Yeah, we're not fans of the idea that certain hits don't count. We feel that it just encourages blind firing, and more paint usage (which is admittedly good for a fields bottom line, but we feel is bad for the customers). Like Nish, if I go to a field that doesn't count certain hits, I'll play by my more strict rules where if you get a hit anywhere on me or my equipment, I'm going to call myself out.

I've never heard of those hit rules. All hits with a quarter size break the person is out. No games on easy please.

So I got to thinking about it, and this is on a Sunday. On Sunday we open at 12pm (noon). However we're often there earlier for team practices on Sunday morning (9:30am~10am till noon). If the pump guys wanted to get there before we technically open, we could get in quite a few pump only games before the rental/walk-on crowd gets there (I have no idea how Sept 17 is shaping up, but I know we've already got quite a few reservations in Sept). I'll happily get down there around 9:30am, and can even get in on some of the games (call it a birthday gift for myself, as I will turn 39 the day before).

I officially decree it then! Get there around 9:30am~10am if you can guys.

Also, for breakfast, I suggest hitting up Joey's NY Bagels which is just down the street from the field. No affiliation, just good food (Mikey at the field likes their Philly Cheesesteak).
