ID:	786986 Greetings, I’ve been seeing these portable tire inflator appear on my Amazon home page and observed the advertised max. pressure increasing. At 150psi, I was certain I could get a paintball out at a decent fps. Decades ago I ran an SP Ion off a Harbor Freight air compressor with velocities in the low 240 fps. So I ordered a portable air compressor (under $50) and was able to find Schrader to 1/8” fittings, and made an easy connection to an EMEK.

    Here are my insights:
Pumping an EMEK (with short 6” hose direct to ASA) up to 150fps takes about 7-8 seconds.
With the EMEK velocity adjuster all the way out (max setting), paintball velocity was 260fps. A second shot was not possible, the portable inflator showed a pressure drop to 80-100psi.
Fittings were sealed nicely, I think a leak is around the Schrader area. This meant a shot had to be taken as soon as the portable compressor reached the 150psi max.

    Future experiments:
I’m thinking an old school expansion chamber can act as a reservoir. Portable air compressor reaching the 150psi max will take longer yet follow up shots might be faster.

We have open class, mech class, pump class, stock class and magfed class. How about a portable air compressor class? It could be one shot every 10second type of feel. Like musket rifle paintball.

Interesting. Laser Tag prevents a player from playing for a certain amount of time after being hit, but is allowed to continue to play afterwards.

The strategy for this format would be like a normal game of tag. Distance is negated, especially with bunkers to hide behind. Stamina and speed would be essential.

I have a feeling that Novas would do very well in this class since they operate at such a low pressure

The real question is whether you can pump up a paintball gun faster than you can load a musket.

This is encroaching sci-fi shooter video game territory, where some guns have to be charged to fire.

Id suggest a foot pump and a small air chamber maybe even a large CO2 expansion chamber. that larger available volume may help get you a second shot.

            I love this game format

The "juggernaut" on the field would just have a pump

Anything is possible, markdem made a marker that pressurized a 2 liter soda bottle using a super soaker style pump if I recall correctly. It's not precisely relevant, but it's always good to gather the mad scientists for interesting topics like this one.

I think the meteor pump markers also operate at a range that would make one of there feasible. ChuckLove had one running real low if memory serves me.

I would definitely play this style of game. I love wacky ideas like this. And as impactfour mentioned, yes i did build a gun that used a bicycle pump and i got very similar velocities to you

Neato build. Can you achieve better velocities and BPS using mentos and coke in the 2-liter?

                Ring a bell, anyone?

I remember someone was advertising a piece of vaporware that was a gun with an integrated compressor. Maybe Tippmann ca. 2005?

I remember empire/nps advertising a gun with an integrated compressor. It may have been called the defender before the name got recycled.

Isn't that how some of these electric airsoft work?

I don't remember a gun specifying the exact alternative technology beyond being electric. I remember something about electrically driven spinning wheels, which was used in a lot of airsoft guns at the time.

I honestly don’t know if it ever made it beyond the coming soon advertisement.

                      The e-volt concept?

It's just an upscaled airsoft gun. I would hate that lag between trigger pull and actual firing

Yeah that was what I was thinking of, I never saw anything beyond a few advertisements in PB2X or other publication.
