I really think the current Hopper market comes down to your situation over anything there is no clear winner like there used to be with the revys or halos. The good news is as a rule of thumb, all the current hoppers have tougher shells and are much better on batteries than you are used to

Rotors (all) - fairly heavy if my memory is correct they are heavier than the HALO series but the good part is the weight is lower on the feed neck. It also comes with some increased durability. The shells are all very strong. Mine once took a 6 foot fall onto concrete and barely had a scratch. It was trying to feed soup after that but whatever. My biggest problems with the rotor and why mine is now my secondary is the capacity options are not great imo, and the way it functions it keeps constant tension on the ball stack. It's actually a decent amount of tension and while waiting in the pits for a game to start or just traversing the field looking for the other team this can lead to deformed paint and dimples. If you are shooting a lot this is pretty much a non-factor as the paint won't have much time at rest but if you're like me and using 2 pods in a game means it's a wild game I think this is worth considering. I will say the capacity is one of the larger reasons why I switched away though I got tired of essentially having to shoot the rotor dry just to make sure there's enough space for my next pod

Spire- I moved to a spire 3. All of the spiers have zero tension on the ball stack at rest, the 3 and 4 use accelerometers to detect each shot. On the plus side this means there are no eyes to go blind or ears to miss shots. On the downside this means the reaction time is a little slower. I don't want to make that sound too serious though because for most situations it's a non factor even if you are running any kind of ramping as the marker gets into the ramp the spire can keep up. For me I started noticing this if I am running my automag with an RT. Basically what was happening is the RT is so fast from shot number one to shot number two that the spire could not get up to speed in the same time. For that reason alone I have to use my rotor on my automag if I want to use the RT on off.

All that aside there is also the spire IR series which replaces the accelerometers with eyes and if I remember right has the original shells so the capacities are different. The IR I believe is one of the best values out there right now and is really good for most situations so I would encourage you to look into it.

I'm not going to speak on the Ctrl loaders as I have no direct experience with them

And as a rule of thumb I avoid all things hk army. I fully believe they are more hype than substance

Sorry it was long but I hope that helped

As far as I know- the CTRL uses the same basic internals as the Spire. Biggest differences I'm aware of are the shell shape / construction, lots of magnets to hold things together inside instead of screws or friction, and aesthetics (plus the level gauge thing, which I've never once used.) You can also get different top shell sizes to add capacity. I really like mine.

A bit of a chain here but if I remember right nxe was bought by tippmann, tippmann was bought by gi. GI also bought JT

So if you go find a newer JT pack those are actually made by nxe and are basically the same

I'm a little partial to valkin. I've had the same pack since 2015 and it's only just now starting to need replacing

carbon is a pretty solid company, expensive but they make nice stuff.

pod packs are not made like they used to be. much more elastic that wears out relatively quickly compared to those in the past.
Carbon makes some of the best gear around IMO. It is 100% geared towards tournament play and won't hold up as well if you are crawling around in the woods a lot, but it is great stuff if you are on a clean (i.e. grass or turf) field. I have several pairs of their pants, the oldest of which I've had for 4 or 5 years, several jersey's, and the knee pads. Everything is super light-weight and pretty breathable.

I love my Carbon pod pack, with the caveat that it is strapless and I hate strapless packs. The pack itself is ridiculously comfortable to wear, well made, and has a ton of pod storage. But it is strapless, and I hate strapless packs. I have an HK Zero-G pack that I don't really like, and a couple Dye packs that are pretty alright, other than the stitching failing at high-use areas (waist strap and pod velcro).

Mr. it is not inexpensive, but (imo) you get what you pay for.

you can also checkout Undr, Social Paintball, and PBRack. I don't own any of them, but I've heard really good things about Undr's gear.

For guns I’d say Emek or anything Planet Eclipse, Dye or CTRL hoppers, and Ninja regs and tanks. Can’t go wrong with any of that to be honest

For masks I’d say JT or Empire

I was actually shopping for a new pack recently. I had an NXe pack back in 2012 which I loved and came across these. I ended up going with something else but it was cool still seeing the name around.

As for hoppers, the Revy is still a top choice for a non force feed hopper, and with the above mentioned caveat of low capacity, the Rotor is an absolute beast. I own and use some 10+ of each of them, and swear by them.

Gunwise, all modern markers are top notch and crazy reliable. Your cockers however, have personality and personality goes a long way.

Welcome aboard, and watch your wallet. You seem to be figuring it out.

That isn't even in the three figure range - ergo, I can only field a fraction of my markers at the same time.

Jokes aside, before my home field closed, myself and a couple of other regulars used to bring 7-10 guns to the field, fully kitted with hopper, tanks, etc. Anyone who had problems with their gear, any newbie with horrible gear, anyone who felt undergunned, or anyone who wanted to try out another gun was more than welcome to use any of our guns.

The message board we had for the field encouraged people to simply sign up for the Sunday, and state what gear they didn't have, if any. Thay would get confirmation shortly that they were welcome, and we would add another kit to the massive haul for the field.

While at the field, we actively chased people down to put a high end gun in their hands, so they wouldn't sit a game out, enter the field with a malfunctioning gun/hopper/whatever, or simply feel that they didn't stand a chance with their cheapest ever gun. Oh, and we also switched out any worthless or foggy masks that we encountered during the day.

Also, all but one Rotor (the very first) I have gotten in used package deals.

For hoppers I like, the LTR (best fast force fed), Revvy (best agitation style), and the JoLo (best non battery low cap)

For markers I like anything from Planet Eclipse especially electro or mech even magfed. They pretty much make the best of everything expect for pump. The 170, 3M, LV, CS they are all top of their class depending on budget. I shoot a modified 1st Gen emek for mech play and a CS/ 08Ego for electro.

Mask I would say find one that fits your face anything with the dual pain lens. I like The JT Proflex for comfort and style, VIO /BK for performance the HD lenses are awesome and they won’t fog in the worst of conditions.

I really like the HK “Zero something”pack I’m running now. It’s strapless something I never would have considered but they have come a long way. Each pod loop can be individually tightened based on how tight you want to hold tubes it’s been pretty durable to and come in a variety of sizes. I have put 12 pods in the thing and it don’t bounce.

For tanks pick your poison/ size . I would just stay away from the First strike tank regs. They suck but pretty much everything else is good even the knock off aftermarket regs are good. FS tanks are good just there regs suck. You can buy bottles without regs. That’s what I do. I buy the size bottle I want and put a powerhouse reg on it. (Not the cheapest option BTW)

My carbon pads have been holding up well. But I really like the older Planet eclipse pads the best. They stopped making soft goods this year unfortunately. Hydro are supposed to be really good. Lots of guys are switching to the D3O Mtn bike pads they get pricy but it’s a lot cheaper than knee surgery.

I still think the V-Force Profiler is one of the best masks around, especially for the price. It has a big vision area, breathes well, looks good, fairly easy lens change, and is under $100. If you are ok spending more- The Push masks are nice, and I really like the Bunkerkings CMD mask (more than the Vio line.) The CMD uses the same lenses as the Vio line, so a new lens is pretty inexpensive. If I were buying an expensive mask today I would get a CMD, for whatever that is worth.

Technically speaking tank size should relate to your height/arm length, combined with where you play on the field. I play in the back and about 6'-3" and find the 80/88/90 tanks to be very comfortable. The 68's just feel weird to hold, and anything smaller is just... no. All that said- find what feels best and go with that, along with the other stuff Chuck E said.

The Carbon pads are the most comfortable (paintball specific) pads I've worn, and I went through 4 or 5 other pads before I got them. I've also worn them under jeans for doing work around the house 😂. I know quite a few people that use the SC Pro Bottom and really like them. I've also seen people wearing pads from other sports- lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, etc (typically Shock Doctor.) If your pads are under your outer layers, just wear what is comfortable that also provides the level of protection you want / need.

That D3O stuff looks interesting... I might swing by my local bike shop to check those out.
