I play mostly alone because most of my friends aren't into paintball anymore. Woodsball guys definitely still wear camo, brighter jerseys and guns are more for speedballlers. Look for specific pump/mech or Stockclass events. So you can befriend guys you see at events. We have a great community in the Northeast.
Going to the field by yourself, and camo

I've seen people in full matching secret squirrel gear and i've seen em in cut up tank tops and cutoffs, happy to see anyone who's cool and fun to play with on the field don't care if they're wearing a potato sack

I've got two different jersey/mask combos. One is a Coogi sweater themed jersey which is a series of a bright colors and a bright blue/pink mask. The other is urban/regular camo jersey and mask. Partially I choose based off of the weather, but I mostly pick based off of how much of a target I want to be. Some days it's nice to have every eye on you an engage in firefights, other days it's nice to feel sneaky. Whether people are wearing camo or bright speedball colors mostly depends on the local fields offerings and the culture of the field.
As far as playing alone I regularly go to my local field by myself and see regulars I have fostered relationships with. It was a bit intimidating at first, but now I'm part of the local fields scenario team and joined a discord where we organize events. When I travel in a group it's usually when Jonnydread chauffers me to a pump meetup at extreme or pnl...

If you can make the drive. Roodhouse IL has a great field called PaintballToGo. They are a private game field that does now 3 scenario events a year. Amazing staff and players. Very few fudds and chuds. They just want it to be a fun non serious game. Lots of old players come. So tons of awesome old gear on the field. I want to make it for Pirates Plunder Sept 27-29th.
.
PaintballToGo Pirates Plunder is our favorite event! For 2 days you can be a pirate and have a blast playing paintball. Bring your swords.Comment

I go alone since I started back into it. I used to run outlaw games back in the day and alone is much easier. Camo is my preferred color, mostly because lightweight and comphy hunting layers are so cheap where I am compared to paintball jerseys. I don't see any reason for my body to be brightly colored. My markers, on the other hand, are all polished stainless steel.Comment

I used to go ballin with a bunch of friends that I met through a private, non-profit field about 15 years ago. Today, they all quit paintball for a host of reasons. So I've been going alone for a while and it's quite fine. In the last few years however, I meet up with regulars at the two fields I play at. I'm very extroverted, talkative and joke around a lot (I channel my inner Rodney Dangerfield), so I get acquainted with strangers very easily. At the fields I attend, the staff and I know each other quite well. I'm also decently knowledgeable about the tech side of the sport, so I'm always around to help.
I wear dark olive or dark tan jerseys and a pair of PE HDE pants (love those). When I play pump, I like to wear dark Hawaiian shirts. I play woodsball/recball exclusively so the vast majority of players wear some form of camo and so it isn't an issue."Aren't you getting too old for this??"
"Nope."Comment

I also used to play with a group of friends (92-93 cali, late 90's-early 00's florida), but ended up moving to an isolated area about 15 years back (cape may, nj), so trips to fields are generally solo. thankfully, due to this forum I had people I had at least met electronically and knew about scenario games nearby to meet up. as for fashion, it depends on the player's style. I started off with jeans & t-shirt, then basic chocolate bar camo bdu's, now I prefer t-shirt & marpat kilt.Comment

I mostly go with other Expandales. I dress the same anytime I go. Let's face it. I'm not fast, accurate or stealthy. My camo is Sloth like movement and being ignored for more pressing threats. The only way I am considered in stealth mode is if the game is held at a circus. Oh, and I carry the latest in obsolete and handmade "markers".Comment

Go to the field solo enough, the "solo" part fades. You'll recognize the regulars, and you'll become a regular yourself.
Players can wear whatever they want, that's appropriate for the general public... or sometimes not, like one image i've seen of a dude playing in that Borat one-piece swimsuit.Comment

Nothing wrong at all with showing up solo! I can personally attest, if you keep waiting for others to be available as a reason to go out, you will miss out on ALOT of opportunities to play and have fun. I'm thankful that I can rely on seeing at least one friendly & familiar face each outing when I go by myself now, even if its just the field staff. Even as a fairly socially anxious and awkward person, I can definitely say that its quite easy to make friends at the local field, or others at scenarios.
As far as playing attire, most days I usually opt to wear my exalt pants w/ a dry-fit athletic tshirt + arm pads. If it's colder, then I have a few jerseys and a long sleeve combat shirt I like to wear.Comment

Before my hiatus, I was the kid in matchy-matchy Dye gear dumping far too much paint in uncapped semi at nothing in particular and I got a lot of welts for it. I was so focused on volume of fire and not tactics and was easily out manoeuvered by the experienced players. It eventually burned me out. Nowadays I grab whichever camo long sleeve I feel like, some 20+ year old gun, and just go for a good time. It's much more fun this way.
As for going by yourself, I get it. I've been trying to work myself up to getting out there but anxiety sucks. I pretty much have to have someone I know with me. I used to go solo back in the day but I felt I never fit in. Probably has something to so with the aformentioned tactics... Anyways, my goal this year is to go solo one day and hopefully make new friends.
PS- I still wear the Dye pants. Best pants I've ever played in by a long shot.Last edited by RhoXi; 02-25-2026, 10:36 AM.Comment
