Back After Years - Woodsball to Something Faster

Glad to be here, I may have been on here years ago but no clue where the account would be.

I’m back to the sport for the real first time in… a long time. Grew up playing woods ball with Tippmanns (Pro Carbine and A5). Had the time of my life back then. Was able to play again recently and had a blast.

I picked up a beat up Piranha for $10 from a local thrift store just because I saw it. I’ll get it working but have no real plan to use it. But it made me realize I want to get back into it fully.

I’d like to get back in and will need new gear starting with a marker. I love the old stuff but I know modern markers are great. Interested in something speedball adjacent but I plan on mainly playing recball. The cheaper the better though, just to get my feet wet. $250-$300 max? Electronic preferred, don’t mind if it’s older if it’s worth it.

    Any recommendations?

There was a hack a few years ago and they reset everything here. Your old account is gone. Welcome back!

For the $300 and less range there's definitely some options. The first thing to come to mind would be a Etha2 which is electric and easy to maintain and they would be in that range. But you could also do an Axe or mini and they are decent as well. If you go to $400 the options are a lot wider. If I were starting over today I would do the PE 170r. They are a great option if you can afford it. Used they are at $400ish.

First off, don't start with the marker, get a good mask first. You can't shoot what you can't see and a bad mask will ruin your whole day regardless of what you have in your hands. Put the money into a mask first, you won't regret it. I know it's not as exciting as buying markers but seriously, it will make a huge difference

        2nd good mask.

        Empire EVS is big, comfy.

JT flex is the industry standard. Upgrade to a 90’s/2000’s vintage when you find one you want.

3rd the good mask.... I would rather play with a $10 gun and a good mask than a $1k marker and a cheap mask...... As far as markers you don't necessarily have to go Electro anymore, mech have come a long ways and caps on speeds for the elctros have evened things up. I am a die hard autococker guy and there are plenty of options there or an Emek is cheap easy and reliable.

On the electro side a Mini GS can be had for cheap and in my opinion are probably the best bang for the buck.... But now that your back and have the itch you're probably going to go all out eventually so you might as well just start buyung everything you wanted from your early days and couldnt afford because if you ended up here, it's inevitable

I fell back in after years away and found my old Spyders were garbage compared to the rental Emeks at Ruckus, so I got an Axe 2.0 and it's an incredible gun. I spent too much time in the internet and got a 170r and then an empire sniper as well with the hope of playing pump again someday.

I upgraded my emek with an adjustable ROF full auto mod. It will do everything from semi auto to 12bps all still fully mechanical

Mechanical stuff has come a really long way

Thanks everyone, definitely mask first no questions asked. Most of the suggestions here are what I came across reading online, so I’ll have to find a direction to take and go for it.

There is no need to go electronic these days, just get a PE EMEK and you’re good to go. If you just prefer the electronic interface, I’d highly recommend the PE Etha 2. I own one and it’s great.

Yeah the Emeks are great. I have a fully upgraded one and a fairly upgraded one. Honestly. with a good barrel, pops ASA and electric hopper, you are good to go. Getting the valve and other body kits is fun but not necessary. I don't even mind the stock trigger and valve combo that much. For most people that's really all they need. Unless you're going to play speedball and need the ramping for sustained rate of fire, the Emek will do it all for you. They are going used for a stock one for around $160-170 these days. Get a carbon tank and a Sprire IR2 and have fun. I use my Emeks more than my LV2, which I really love to shoot. But the Emeks use less paint and are a blast to use. There's nothing better than taking out a guy shooting 10bps electric with your mech! Well, maybe now doing that with my EMF100 (magfed Emek), that's pretty exciting too.

I'm in the exact same situation. I use my LV2 (which I love) once in a while, while I always go back to my Emeks. I find that with electros I end up shooting too much (even on pure semi).
"Aren't you getting too old for this??"
                      "Nope."

I'd be getting a JT mask first, then finding a 170R. I saw someone in the fakebook groups selling a complete 170R package for $420 shipped yesterday. Deals are out there.

Just get this lot and be done with it. I think one jt flex is $149 anyways. Your getting so many options here and supporting a member buying in-house.

I didn't realize this was you! Come out to Ruckus again and you can try out some of the new stuff I got.

Used Etha 2. It'll function as well as any other modern speedball marker and parts are extremely easy to find because all of the non-electronic parts are interchangeable with EMEKs which are commonly used as rentals.
