setting up a couple mags for my boys - issues and reccomendations
don't think its that- I did replace it already, but went back and replaced it again with a different new one and air still shoots out the barrel.
I did note the spacer - its a 225 if thats anything meaningful.
on a side note - when putting the velocity adjuster back in after greasing the reg spring - how do you know where to set it to begin with?
sorry toester - did not see your post - OK - took apart the classic mag - it had a 220 spacer - put it in the Minimag and... bingo - it works -almost - it does have a very slight his down the barrel now. guess I need to order a spacer kit from AGD now... and pay shipping again!
Glad you tracked it down. Having a second mag to swap parts with is really useful for diagnostics, isn't it?
I wonder why AGD went with the powertube spacer system. My 1995 level 7 mag still came with a powertube spring instead of a spacer (probably one of the last like that) and leaking down the barrel is one problem I have never had. I've used both the stock level 7 foamieless bolt and an ANS venturi bolt. Maybe I just got lucky that my spring is the right length for my gun.
I've never had an issue, either... my Classic Mag actually has a spring in it now, AND a non-welded power tube, even. I might play around with devolumizing next summer to get some more efficiency.
Further update and some observations
first off thanks again for everyone's help
both mags are running really nice - I've run about - 400 rounds through each in varying conditions - rain, morning afternoon ect. after dialing them in and getting velocity under control, and they show really good consistency throughout
some things i noticed - hopefully it helps someone
coming from the world of cockers it seams impossible that such tiny adjustments and changes can make such huge differences
They love oil is an understatement - the more I lubed each O-ring and put drops where indicated the better they run. outlast in particular ( I was using palmers at first) made a big difference
get a spacer kit - it seems crazy that such a small amount could make such a difference!!! - keep playing with them to - just cause you stopped the leak down the barrel does not mean its the ideal one.
it takes allot of paint and air to dial one of these in - any adjustments or seal changes need some time to "find their place" - it can be super frustrating
the gas through grips made a huge difference in consistency with Co2 - i did not get an official "expansion chamber" maybe they will be even better, but for mild old Cali it did not seem an issue
Barrels and paint
made a separate section here because the ball chopping was a big issue for me. keep in mind I don't own a revy and wanted to try and get these to work with gravity.
I finally got paint to run through both the Minimag and the classic RF mag with no breaks consistently by removing Docs adapter and using an OG automag barrel with Valken Graffiti
there was a big improvement in the Minimag using docs adapter with an overbored .686 barrel vs a properly matched freak cocker barrel, but It would still randomly chop a ball in half and make a huge mess. it always chopped the last ball as well - without fail
I love Doc and i love the idea of using my wide array of cocker barrels but man - am i doing something wrong?
accuracy was also much improved with the OG barrel using the same valken paint
small delicate paint is a disaster - I ran Proshar woodball and one other premium grade I cant remember both were about .677 and very brittle
Thanks MrBarraclough,
it's been a fun process. so much so i just picked up another minimag when i probably should have gotten a couple nice loaders. oh well.
I think your spot on with docs adapter - the more paint was in the hopper the better they worked. gonna try it with a big .689 cocker barrel and see if it's even better.
I thought nelson stopped making .68 cal Paintballs.... then I just checked their website because of your post and its been completely re-vamped and anarchy is back on the product list - i swear I looked like a month ago. just ordered a case!
Nelson is selling by the case directly to the public again? You should post the good news in its own thread. I'm many members would be thrilled. I'm a bit spoiled because my home field is a Nelson distributor, so unless I bring my own paint I use Ranger, which is basically Anarchy with a slightly tougher shell.
When I play with my mag I run either a CP one piece .689 or a CP TechPB .691. Seems to work reasonably well, aside from blowing up fragile paint, which I don't blame on the barrel.
apparently - I was able to place the order anyway! it is good news I've always liked their paint and a .688 ball would really be icing on the cake!
they did not have Ranger listed... anarchy and precision. hopefully anarchy is about as thick as graffiti
