    3 XValve Issues

    Hello Everyone,

Reaching out to you all because I cant fix this and maybe the frustration has gotten me...maybe its the the frustrations beers.

I just tuned and played a few games 2 weeks ago with this all new, no used parts build. Was shooting 285, inconsistant but it was brand new.

Went to use it today and it is firing once on air up, level 10 will not reset it just locks up or with the power of 1000 suns completes the cycle. Third issue is I have to be very gentle and delibrate with the trigger or she goes full auto, if I hold the trigger its auto .

I have been cycling carriers. Inspected and replaced all orings on this new valve with less than a case of paint through it, have filled my tank 4 times now working my way through shims and carriers.

Why the full auto tendancy? It is ULT.
Why wont this bolt reset ot stop on paint?
Why is it firing on air up?

Thanks in advance. Click image for larger version

Put the RT on/off back in and tune it with the gold spring first. Makesure to put all of the orings back on the RT on/off. Make sure the trigger rod is not hitting the back of the trigger when aired up. You have a lot of non agd parts and not all play nice all the time. Let me know if you need more.

I did put the new RT back in and made the issue worse. That is with all orings and verified condition. The trigger rod has about .025 gap to back of trigger.

The part cant figure out is having it working 4.0 and two weeks later it just isnt working from the get go.

It was leaking out the V-nut on initial gas up when it did work. Would clear after 10 or so dry fires. Now it doesnt leak on gas up but has these 3 other issues.

I am leaning towards the reg piston. It looks new like it should but that doesnt mean its compressing correctly. Is this thinking logical?

As mentioned in our PM it's not the reg piston, the only thing that can go wrong on it are the seals, if they go bad the marker will vent air...

As it always is with you guys "its Luke's fault"

I'll gladly take a look at it if you want to send it in, if it's my fault I'll fix it for free. LMK

Im not an engineer or anything fancy, but I do understand mechanics from an aviation standpoint. I believe since it was working just fine, then decided its spirit animal is a tommy gun two weeks later it may be a part as stated above that may have failed under load. But there is a wealth of knowledge well above my own here and I appreciate everyones input.

Bolt reset/stick could be the detent being too far in. That's been an issue for some in the past.

Not that it sticks as we may think about it sticking. It hits a squeegie and trys to slam it into the next relm. Once you rip the squeegie out it just finishes the cycle.

Nobody said anything about it being anyone's fault. These problems are not always easy to diagnose for a new guy. Given he said it WAS working it is probably something in the valve.

Is that a 3 piece body? What size L10 carrier in in the gun now?

Line with dot. Fit is spot on compared to the other 3 I have done. 3 peice body? Its the UL I ordered from AGD in October. If there is a difference in UL bodies...I was unaware, which is why I reach out to you all.

Check how tight the thumb screw is….i had a good shooting xvalve still during break in and thumb screw being too tight was my issue for the bolt stick..

Good one. Forgot that's been a issue too for bolt stick. I have had that happen too.

If you cant figure it out you can send it here and I'll fix it no charge. You just pay the return shipping. Its probably something easy for sure.

Is the valve and sear brand new?

Yes. I havent had the time to pull apart any of my other setups and calipers to make measurements since the work week started. I ordered a new piston and sear for at least a spare if everything measures out right.

(In a nut shell) The job of regulator piston is to balance the spring tension between 'regulator pin springs' and the 'large springs' behind the piston and the velocity nut. It works as a piston between the two spring sets controlling the chamber pressure, the term piston is used because it moves forward and backwards as air flows in and out of the valve opening and closing air flow to the valve. Inside the piston is a spring loaded seal that will vent when the system over pressurizes. The oring seals the valve. It has nothing to do with the problems you're having, unless your velocity is set incorrectly.

I suggest you inspect your sear and bolt edge under magnification. The leading edge on the sear that catches the bolt should be sharp, not cut your finger sharp, but rather not smoothed over or chipped. Verify the same on the leading edge of the bolt. Here's a picture of a heavily worn sear. Click image for larger version

Update. Replaced sear, it was exactly .010 shorter than the new sear from tip to where the bolt catch is. Dont know if that matters. Replaced the piston just because I bought a new one, and I had a dream I was a scientist once... i didnt measure, only compare. It was extremely tight putting it in.

Well the disassembly and 2 new parts coupled with re-assembly fixed the issue. I will be taking this out tomorrow....if it doesnt work again in 2 weeks, keep your eyes peeled on the BST.

Thanks everyone for your help. LukeAO , tunaman5. I really appreciate it.

Level 10 works as is should. I should have thrown that in the update. Put a case of paint through it today. Fantastic....like it was before. Final setup after all the fuss is Level 10 line w/dot and 2 shims. ULT is three shims. I am not subject matter expert on AGD but the fact that the piston was replaced and the Level 10 didnt try to pull some WWF stuff regardless of carrier definetely makes me think I had some pressure regulation issues.

I hope I dont have a groundhog day but its alive and kicking. Thanks again all.
            Working...
