Re-birth of Project rATS 2.0: A longterm solution to the parts problem

    Hello MCB,

In the "Before Time" we had this amazing long, looonnngggg term project called the "rATS project"
So, with lordkyleofearth blessing, here is the re-post/continuation of the rATS project:

The rATS (revived ATS) project is our solution. We plan to model every piece of the ATS. The parts that cannot be easily printed (like springs and o-rings) we'll try to find in the wild. The goal here is to allow anyone, anywhere in the world, to obtain the parts they need at any point into the future. 3D printing has some major advantages: it is on-demand and accessible everywhere, it doesn't require any production runs or warehousing, and it allows us to utilize manufacturing advances/materials that didn't exist in 1994. It's got some major downfalls too; most notably in per-unit price.

Our goal isn't to make money at this; just to keep these markers in players' hands for as long as possible. Check back at this thread for new part models as they become available. Also be on the lookout for links to videos on how to care-for, diagnose, and repair ATS markers. I'll post the links in this thread as well. If there is a specific part or repair that you need, please shoot either of us a message, or post it in this thread, and we will prioritize that for you.

All of the models are offered as open-source products. Anyone is welcome to use them for personal use, we just ask that you not try to start a new for-profit company with the work posted here Also, if anyone is interested in contributing to the project, we'll gladly take all the help we can get.
I have also been working on those guns for a bit and brought back to the field both the old CO2 and the newer HPA models. Don’t hesitate to reach out for any help on those great guns.

And for the 3D models, here they are (I did not make those files and do not take credit in any means):
PS: some of the link are no longer active, all the parts are in the attached zip πŸ‘

    Models so far
Use a flexible material (Ninjaflex or similar) for these:
    Bolt Seal.STL
    Sleeve Pad.STL

Use Nylon or other hard plastic for these:
    Impulse Seal.STL
    Velocity Adjuster Cap.STL
Pull.stl (May work with plastic if you also use a plastic cog, otherwise, it will likely require steel)
LeftShell.stl (This seems to do fine in PLA, but players in hotter climates may do better with PETG or ABS)
AT10 Cap.stl AT10 style barrel nut for converting other models to the AT10
ATS Feed Port Cover.stl AT4/16/10 feed port cover for deleting the foreloader feed port on AT85/TS-1 markers
Tactical Rail Full Height.stl Full stock height tactical rail without mock charging handle.
NATO Rail Low.stl Tactical rail from above, but 5mm lower. This should line up with handguard rail systems.

    Use steel for these:
Sear.STL (Note: This model is still being confirmed, but appears to be correct)

    Development Strand:
These models have not been extensively tested, but probably work (maybe).
sizer.stl This is the precursor to a fresh supply of unisizers. This one is more like the original sizer ring set, as it lacks any sort of soft lands inside. However, if you need a sizer and don't otherwise have one this is a solid option. It should slip (snugly) over the minor threads on your barrel and get the job done. I have tested this one and it does effectively stabilize the bolt sleeve, as the sizer is required to do, and it let the marker fire/cycle normally. It *should* work for you if you need a sizer.

I encountered a lot of ball jamming between the case of the mag and the finger of the chain.
After lots of testing, I figured out it was the tiny modern paint that was the cause of the issue, so here is my solution: a shim to make the channels in the mag closer to modern paint size.
    Mag shim 1_2.zip

And here is the bolt face i made: Bolt face 1.2.zip

Ill keep posting as i made some more files and find some more trick and repairs for those old beasts.

Im probably the last guy trying to keep playing with it, but i finally got started on it

Thanks to anson for getting me some DAM mags, i was able to start on a magwell adapter.
The first prototype is printing, looks like its gonna fit better than expected.

PS: its round ball only, i may or may not worry about FSR later ...

PS2: It will remain round ball only ... too much problem get introduced trying to feed FSR through the adapter. Also, no mod to the gun needed.

Proof of concept is in: DMAG will work and I don't even have to chop up the gun!

lookin good, is there a top gap (will it drop a ball during mag swap/flip)? I have an old pump ats listed for sale that could use this (no mag chain pawl)

Right now it will drop the ball in the gap/transfer tube, i made sure the gap is about 0.68" so it a whole ball and doesn't chop.
Once i have it functional, im gonna look at adding a detent in the transfer tube to hold that last ball in there and don't smash the stack on reload.

I have one that was made for me, since then, i got the right printer ...
So i got the tool and the files, i need to give it a go and see how they fit.

Do you need the right or left side? Or both?

Nothing out of the box ... Finding an old spare ifls you best bet ...
This is part of why I've been working on mag adapter. At some point we'll run out of spare plates and mags ...

I can tak a pic of a new one if it helps πŸ‘

PS, if it broke you might have your air up procedure messed up. How do you air up the gun?
Also, do you ever dry fire without the mag?

              #10
oh man please send me a picture of what they look like i have been searching like crazy but nothing.
also i tried to pm you about the dam mag well but i guess it never went through, i was wondering if you could share that file? also i seen there is an old post about some one with a zeta mag well adapter but the files are not there or broken link.

so i aslways put air in first then the mag i went out side to shoot some more (was shooting it all day with valken graffiti rounds) having the time of my life then it jams so bad i cant take the mag out so i take out the 13ci 3k psi tank then im able take the mag out but the bolt is stuck forward i can feel that rubber oring through the breach so i take it apart and as soon as i take out the guide plate the bolt goes back and i see the metal leaf spring broke, so i put it back together put a mag in and it jams the mag...i think the mag i have jams in the bottom corner im sure you know you made some type of shim for it (which i would like to see a picture of if you dont mind) it jamed 2 balls up the feed and cracked and broke a bit of the black plastic that guides the fingers (easy fix).

and yes i dry fire the gun with no mag then dry fire with mag to see if it cycles then use paint, (with the broken guide plate it will cycle the mag, BUT when i load paintballs it will jam the mag and gun and sometimes try to chop a ball) so it seems this guide makes it so it does a full proper cycle, why i dry fire without paintballs it looks like it cycles because its moving but i don't think its timed right for balls.....i think that's just my idea

The chain in the mag advances by being pulled with a lever that have teeth engaging with the chain. This "arm" does a circular motion: move forward hovering over the chain, comes down on the chain, drag the chain as it move backwards and wait for the next shot. This motion is guided by the spring in that side plate; the whole thing is driven by the hammer's movement.
Jams and dry fire will damage the spring!

If you get repeated jams, I would verify the fingers on the side of the chain. Careful not to break them wile straightening them. Also make sure the mags are indexed properly before putting them in the gun.
The shim I made are to help with modern smaller paint from jamming around the fingers.

Side plate, chain, and oring for the lpr, ram and 3 way are some of the proprietary components I am not aware of replacements.
We have 3d printed mags, but they need a combination of FDM and SLA, but I have never managed to get them working properly ...

The zeta mag adapter were laser cut and the files never shared. I got your PM, but life has been a bit too busy for a proper response ...
My mag adapter need more work to be really usable. They are a good proof of concept at this time, but there is several issues I need to address.

Perfect man thanks for the update, I got the zeta mag files and there is some stuff that could be changed but so far I been able to get it to work perfectly , now I'm home making springs for my printed mags , they have to be a little on the stiff side so they balls so chop when it cycles.

Also I would like to point out that even if you have the guid plate out or in it still works I was able to get like 70 shots off with no problem l, and that was with a broken mag where the plastic broke near the sprocket that holds that tiny spring and ball bearing , I managed to jb weld it and save it , but my God.... getting that ball bearing to sit on the spring will you push the chain sprocket down is fking hard!
