Dream Autococker

So many years ago I knew what i would want on a new cocker. I still think i know but i am not 100% sure anymore. I have seen many people say ID, Shocktech, Palmer's, AKA or others are the best my question is if you had unlimited resources and the ability to get any part that has been produced (say more than 20) what would your dream marker consist of? If i leave a part out please feel free to add it and if this has been done before and i missed it please let me know where. Also if you have a reason for any part please let me know why. If there is a part that is not required like a cocking rod on a half block just put N/A or if you have one that you would use on something else put the make and "Not Required". If you like something but know there is a better product feel free to share both. One final note i know that there are some items that are aesthetic and do not matter feel free to put an N/A there as well. For the time being I am not putting down pump parts even though this is a pump focused forum since this is the autococker section and not the pump. There is no wrong answer here if you like the stock WGP valve that is just fine.

That is amazing that you love Custom Products so much! I did not realize they made 3 ways or LPRs. I knew ANS had most of the parts for an Autococker but think they outsourced most of that.

I've built dozens of guns, including my dream gun, and I've used just about every part along the way. To me, what parts I use really comes down to the design objective.

I usually prioritize brand continuity for a build. I'll try to stick to 2, maybe 3, brands of parts across the whole gun. Belsales and AKA, for example. Or Hybrid and Macdev. The only time I've ever really done a mix and match was with my Trilogy, and only because there's really limited options. I really like the Alien Morph valve, and I really like the Niche 86* slider. But I can't really do a build with full brand continuity around those two parts because, simply put, they don't exist.

If I'm doing a really high-end build, I'd do all Belsales or 2k+ WGP stuff. STO 3way and ram, Outkast LPR. They're the most foolproof and frankly they hang with everything else performance wise. The real truth is that 99% of people wouldn't notice the difference when shooting. But anyway, Shocktech stuff has always been underwhelming in my experience, same with Palmers and CCM.

For frames, I really like the Niche frame as mentioned, follwoed by the KAPP groovy frame or the later DYE frames.

But the reality is, a full ID build will beat out literally anything else. They're a little blase to me, though. A full belsales gun has more prestige, if that makes sense. If I'm building a dream gun, it has to have the wow factor, a sort of gun version of "I'm better than you." And ID doesn't have that.

I'd just want a '98 Autococker, completely stock, with the original vented shroud. Not that these were especially good cockers or anything, it's just that I remember when they were introduced, and despite being a dyed-in-the-wool Automag guy I thought they looked cool and kinda wanted one. There was this open amateur tournament in Atlanta in November of 1998 that I wanted to play in, but couldn't put together a team or the resources to go (it was around my 17th birthday and I live 5 hours from Atlanta). First prize in the 5-man amateur division was a set of brand new '98 cockers. I used to daydream about winning one while poring over the issue of APG that had the ad for the tournament.

My reasoning is that if I'm going to be shooting a mech in any kind of semi-serious circumstance, I'll be opting for a hammerless pneumatic such as my upgraded EMEK. Autocockers to me are just for casual fun, so might as well cater to the nostalgia factor.

I completely disagree with the thought that Autocockers can’t be a reliable tournament marker. But to each their own.

The parts don’t matter as much as how they are assembled, to be honest. I’ve made wonderful shooters with parts from every brand.

That being said: I try to maintain parts continuity based on the body and it’s style.

Pick a body that speaks to you. Get a frame that works for you. And then I usually try to organize from there.

My thoughts exactly. If you're going for a more cohesive look, sticking with parts from a single manufacturer are more likely to have matching anodizing, milling, and overall style than mixing & matching would. For example, I went down this road when I rebuilt my old Bob Long Autococker using primarily ID components. Then again, some people like a piecemeal aesthetic on their Autocockers.

Drop Top Center feed BPS Ripper. Shock tech pneumatics Gunfighter frame, AKA 2L+ reg, Bob Long cam drive ASA. All color matched in a Caustic high gloss finish.

But honestly I rather have it as a pump. All CCM’d out 86* with the aluminum finger grove panels and an EZ grip out the front.

My priority would be on the body and frame. All the other parts are stock, easy to get, reliable and easy to tune

My dream autococker when i was starting to be able to afford expensive guns used to be a Chrome ANS GenX 3. I had several chances to buy one when they were new but all had significant stains in the chrome.

After many years of chasing my dream guns (autococker and others) I now know now that it would only be my dream autococker for a short time after I got it and then I would behave another dream autococker when something else catches my eye to think about. This is the way.

My favorite ram, back in the day... I had my Cocker set up to pinch, only ram I could get to do it.

I think the pressure required from the LPR was halved when I swapped the Mini Ram for an STO. I know it was far easier to pull the back block back while the pneumatics were pressurized. I cannot fathom how you could get the ANS to pinch paint but were unable to do so with basically any other ram.

They require more LPR pressure, fill faster, and add more drag on the 3way. The short stroke length & increased pressure.. chop chop.

shocktech, Belsales, moodys, Freeflow, palmers, ccm all went in the opposite direction with their designs. Longer stroke length and larger pistons.

Cocking force is the same regardless of the ram choice.
