    My Black Magic project

****Scroll down for the completed project photos below!!! (Post # 10)

When I was a teenager in the early 2000's, the Black Magic was my ultimate dream gun. I was never able to save up enough for one, then took a 10+ year break. I got back in to it early this year, and had been searching endlessly to find one in decent shape, undrilled, in a color I liked.

Finally, I was the lucky bidder on E-bay. Shes in pretty good shape, but definitely has signs of aging.

I've disassembled, and plan to do a deep clean. I picked up some new parts - Shocktech pneumatics, Superfly bolt, lower tube parts, and the Gunfighter frame. I will post progress here, with an aim to get this old girl running like a dream by the spring!

Let me know if you have any advice for rebuilds, or post your own here!

Congrats on the new (old) marker!

I was wondering who got that. I was VERY close to bidding, but I’ve already got that color.

Nice! Nothing wrong with the stock pneumatics other than the lack of easy adjustability on the LPR.

Black Magics are my preferred Cocker style. I have a red one with chrome bits and a green/grayish silver fade with black bits. I need to find a blue/black fade example like the one I had fifteen years ago that I foolishly made into a Sniper.

Been close to getting one of these several times. I have a 2k5 Black Magic. I like Supa Fly bolts and have a couple of them in my cockers/pumps.

I’ve never used a Shocktech 3-way, but love the Inceptions ones. I recently put one of them on my FBM Teardrop. They are very easy to time.

          Looking forward to your build!

There is actually one on EBay right now for 300 bucks! Ad says it may need some work, but the body is in pretty good shape - take a look if you got some extra cash to burn!

                Thanks all!

I am super excited about it.

I have been working on it in short spurts daily. So far, here is my feedback:

The Shocktech front end LPR does NOT fit into the front block on the mini Black Magic (Maybe it would on a full size?). Seems to be a commonish problem.

The new Bomb2 3-way is not adjustible from the front. It is the old school style where you adjust from the coupling on the actuator rod. I read on some forums that it was in fact adjustable from the front, but I suppose this is my error in research.

Common problem I read is being able to screw/unscrew the damn pump arm on and off of the ram shaft. Well, I learned that if you unscrew the casing off of the ram, the front end of the Shocktech ram shaft itself has a fitting for an allan wrench to sit in. Using an allan key on both sides makes it SO much easier to appropriately adjust!

Overall, the project is coming along very nicely! I will eventually return with the full, finished product in the coming weeks. Will follow with a shooting video in the spring!

You can buy a new bomb shaft for $6 it’ll come hex broached.

Great work! I like the small detail like matching the color of the pneumatic hose with the body and the 45 degree macro on the HPR.

Looks fantastic overall, though the grips clash with the rest. I'd throw on a nice set of color-matching G10 grips. Changing out the ASA for a silver one would go a long way, too.
