    Operating pressure

    Just a simple question here, how do I test the operating pressure of my marker?

    Chronograph the marker pull the regulator off and put it on a reg tester.

      I put an old huge 1000 psi reg gauge on an old duck bill ASA that was heavy and I would never use. I never thought to do this until recently and it helps allot to “zero” my regs out at 350 psi after a rebuild to know where I’m starting from.

        So specific to autocockers, isn't the operating pressure determined by the LPR? Like when dude on YouTube posts a video and says the marker is shooting 285fps at 250 psi, how is he testing that? This might be a really newbie question (as my rank here suggests lol), but a guy's gotta learn

          It is determined by the marker high pressure regulator not the low pressure regulator. The low pressure regulator should be 50-100psi. High pressure regulator can be from 150-400 psi.

        the LPR (circled in pink) sets the pressure for the ram = cycle speed

        the blue green arrow is the HPR and sets the pressure for firing the ball.

          This gets into what you define as the operating pressure.

          Planet eclipse/dye etc got into the habit of calling the pressure coming out of the LPR the operating pressure. In reality if you feed that same pressure into the marker from the asa it won't work though. The valves need much more pressure to operate properly. They did this as a marketing tool to sell marker to people who have no idea how they work

          In a cocker, the LPR air is often called the "cyclical" pressure as it's cycling the marker not firing it. The air going through the valve is called the operating pressure as it's the amount of pressure you need to actually operate the marker. In theory you could feed the ASA the same pressure and the marker would operate fine (in real world it doesn't work exactly like that but it's close)

          Depending on the setup cockers can run anywhere from under 200psi to 900psi if the valving and springs are set up to handle either end of that. Actually now that I think of it, my cocker is running just under 200 but I also have a mq2 in it so it's kind of a special case. That's a very rare valve that replaces everything in the lower tube

            Sorry, life shit has really hit the fan on my end. Thank you guys for the insite here. I have a reg tester I made for testing the regs on my tanks. I'm waiting on other parts to arrive in the mail. In the meantime, I can pull the CP reg off this gun and test it.

              My 2K4 Pro Stock has a threaded port just after the reg on the front block on the bottom. I imagine if I went to the hardware store and got some fittings/lines I could hook a gauge to it. Prob wouldn't want to play with it hooked up though. Even looks like there would be room for a mini-gauge, but again, that eats up real estate. Maybe yours has a similiar threaded port? Seems like the easiest way to check pressures to me.

                This is how I zero in and then fine tune 1/4 turn at a time…however out of the 3 cockers I built I claim 250 psi however I’m plus or minus 1/2 turn either direction because I have never tuned and timed one and then disassembled and retested the psi haha so I’m a liar 🤥 after ION next year when I do I tear down I’m going to retest my cp hpr to see where I’m truly at. 250 seems great with aka and inception valves 335 is where I’m at with a stock 9/16 valve.

                  I’m a fan of the CP gauge adapter. It’s just a $20 piece to add any 1/8” npt gauge or transducer between the HPR and marker.

                  Used it for a lot of regulator recharge testing and checking operating pressures while setting up markers.

                    my biggest issue with stuff like this is it adds quite a bit of volume, so there are times having an extender will allow you to drop the operating pressure , then you take it off and you’re shooting significantly lower

                    It’s a good theory but naw, doesn’t make a measurable impact. I did an A B A test on a few markers and chrono speed remained the same.

                    Otherwise everyone would run large sidewinder tops and manufacturers would have made larger vertical ASAs.
