I had tried everything, different shaped sear lugs and what you are describing is exactly the same thing that happened with mine.

      That sear looks homebrew

Hmmm, I doubt that's the issue then. Pretty sure what's in it is a derivative of the wgp roller. It's a black version of this one

Yeah I think the one that was in mine (pictured) had been ground down before maybe to change the break angle didn't notice how much the profile was different till I compared it to the new one. Was hard to tell when mounted because if it was ground the surface was dead flat and nice and polished. Works great now with the black roller. But mine did exactly the same thing where it would catch and hold when you would cock it then if you pulled back the rod and let go it would release without pulling the trigger. I sank the lig down to a where it would almost fully bind and nothing. I tried springs adjusted the tension screws etc and no luck. So I changed the sear and it solved everything. After I switched I barely had to sink the lug down to catch so it was way easier to time in the break location to when the ram kicks.

I suggest swapping out the sear and trigger plate. That one looks like it got basement dremel treatment. I think it’s a geometry issue. It sounds like the trigger plate has been shaved or the sear and changed the geometry of the trigger and sear movement.

That photo above is not mine.

Tried something else. I was suspecting that the timing rod was too short so I.... Found a new one. It works fine but there's no change. With this one I was able to very clearly set the lug release and 3 way activation further apart though but it didn't change anything it's still not catching. I did also verify that the back block is traveling back far enough.

Nobody has ever said I'm bad at improvising

So I think I'm down to two scenarios.

              1) the lug is pushing the sear down on it's way forward, although why is unclear

              2) the trigger or sear has some binding that's just enough to allow the sear from coming up fast enough to catch the lug. Just pulling the trigger and releasing I don't feel this is the issue but I can't rule it out either

Fantastic timing rod. Very on brand.

              Got it!

Finally, turns out it was a combination of things.

The cocking rod is a 3 piece design, the rear knob has a set screw inside of it and that was set too far forward so the knob was too far back which prevented the cocking rod from pulling the hammer as far back as it should have it was very close to the catch point so while I thought I had verified it was going back far enough to catch the lug in not positive it was and then I had the timing so far apart between sear release and 3 way activation just to simplify things while working on it. I think what was happening was when I released the trigger the 3 way would activate first but then there was so much of a gap that the trigger couldn't go forward fast enough to allow the sear to catch the lug before it was already past.

So, thank you for all the suggestions here, it's shooting but not tuned yet
