You guys need to vary your workout routine. Can’t hit stuff without an undercocker, can’t hit stuff with an undercocker, can’t hit stuff without a stock, can’t hit stuff unless it’s a side saddle double 12g with single shot feed and ivory grips…

You should be easily able to hit anything within paintball range while using the Phantom (or Trracer, or Spartan, or Hammer, etc) with a single handed pistol grip, a vertical bottle, a 20oz bottom line back bottle, remote, or any other sane configuration. It’s not an M60, it only goes 200 feet!

Bragging about how you can’t tell time unless it’s a digital watch…in a specific color even…seems like a weird flag to fly.

If this were the A5 forum I’d be feeling for you more maybe…nobody can hit anything with one of those.

The way I snap shoot I need something to shoulder. It’s not that I can’t hit anything without a stock I’m just about 80% more consistent with a stock. I can keep a much tighter group especially in situations ware I’m snapping batting. It’s got nothing to do with weight it has to do with a more stable platform to snap battle off of. You have less left to right movement while not restricting up and down. At the cost of having a longer setup. I’m a big guy so if the cover I need fits my big *** it fits my stock most of the time lol

12-14” barrel and a stock on a VSC is my jam.

For instance on a back bottle. The bottle gets in the way for me. I look down the outside edge I can’t do that with a Back bottle setup. So it’s different to shoot them every other paintball marker the mussel memory is different so it takes time to get it dialed in. I know people who can shoot them just fine very accurately actually. But I feel like I’m hip firing with a Back Bottle valve setup because I can’t get the barrel tip up to my eye. Some people that’s what they are use to and that’s what works. Beautiful part about a phantom if you don’t know what you like you can try them all. You don’t really know what you like playing with till you try it. My phantom has gone threw so many different changes factory and aftermarket.

I'm taking the plunge and will be placing an order with CCI (love their Phantom builder by the way). But before doing so I'd like to get some advice from you friendly Phantom-owning folks. The main reason I'm getting one is that I now play at a field where there are only a few members and as such we can be expected to be mixed-in with rentals (I prefer of course to play exclusively amongst equipment owners, but what can you do?). So I don't need a tool to dominate, as I'll be happy to score a few hits here and there.

I was therefore thinking the following: I'd order a basic, 'old-school' version: standard pump, M16 grip, nickel hard line with vertical ASA. I intend to use a 13ci tank. I was thinking of ordering all parts in a single colour other than black. On to my questions:

        - Should I pay extra for the Freak boring (I already have inserts) or the included rings work well enough?
        - Would the aforementioned set-up be awkward to use without a T-stock? While I couldn't shoulder the gun, it would keep it light and compact.
        - How's the basic pump? Would upgrading to a retro undercocking/undercocking pump be worth it? If so, what's the difference between the retro UC and 'standard' UC pumps?
        - Do they still offer 'old-school' left or right feedneck body options? Have not seen that on the builder.
        - If I decided later on to order a whole batch of upgardes after having played a few games with it, could I order them anodized to match the gun I have?

        Thanks!
do you live near field where some has phantom. if so you can try it out first before you buy it. better to get feel of gun before you buy. since each person has different size hands or like the way it feels.

Played again with it last Saturday. This time around I scored more hits that day than during all of my previous outings combined. Patience and practice do pay off.

When we were done playing a weird idea came to me: why not try a 'ghetto' undercoking kit, to gauge the difference? So I took whatever material was available to me at the field and did this (see pic). At first I thought I preferred the UC style then when I removed my contraption and shot some more with it I wasn't so sure. I'll try it next time when I'm actually playing.

I also found an old screw-in T-stock and I have a spare ASA lying around. I tried to build a 'ghetto' T-stock set-up to feel the difference but couldn't find a way to secure it. Well, fun times!

I don’t mind the over barrel handle. They always worked well for me. Honestly it’s just about what you are use to. I do prefer something to shoulder tho. I like my stocks. Looks like a nice open class setup. If you don’t shoot a lot of paint check out the Tippman 9ci tanks. That phantom should get around 150 shots off a hot fill on one. They work perfectly off the vert ASA as long as you don’t shoot alot. It’s my favorite way to run mine when it gets to cold for 12g.

First time I'm seeing that 9ci Tippmann tank - good call. I only carry 50 paintballs in my loader, and an extra 50 in a single pod (which I rarely need) so I should be good to go with that tank. Gotta find one locally.

The local paintball season will be ending in about 5-6 weeks but I may be tempted when it resumes in the spring to order a 45 grip + T-stock. It would definitely make the gun more stable when I shoot it, but the downside would be the added weight and loss of compactness. I'm slowly getting the hang of tilting the gun like a speedball gun and using the the part where the feedneck connects to the body (forming a 'V') and the top of the pump as a sight reference.

I would somehow bruise my middle finger everytime I used the over barrel pump. Love my UC kit, one of the first Mike made. My other phantom, the last Mike ever sold, has the dual rod which is nice. UC ftw. I also am so much more stable with a stock. I like L stocks over T stocks.
