      No early phantoms were open faced the short power tubes came about because of the TPC style bolts

    My opinion is that, if someone were to do this, it would be better to have a fine threaded on that limits how far the valve could open, like on the bottom tube of the Illusion. This would let you use soft springs, and control flow directly.

    But... probably lots more trouble than it's worth.

      If it had a large enough range to completely abrogate the need for the down-the-barrel adjuster it would be worth it.

        Currently throwing ~$150 at this nonissue.
        Goal is to be able to adjust the velocity without using the Thandle that annoys me for a thousand reasons,

        Gonna try one of those sidemounted stabilizers, start by get the gun shooting ~270fps “consistently” with a spring kit and reg at ~600psi (ear hustled this # from bacci).

          So i was lucky enough to grab a phantom set up with a palmers female stabilizer mounted to the side of the valve body running with a vert asa bucket changer. Adjusting velocity makes super tight by a few clicks up or down. With the gauge , it helps also to know when C02 getting low. I believe it's set up with lighter springs because it runs at around 500 psi , and easily achieves 280+ . Is a very nice set up. I'd imagine the palmers rear valve body stabilizer would achieve this too.
          As for the topic of compressing the valve spring: it would only close off the valve faster and require a much harder hammer spring resulting in stiffer pump stroke.
