    Kingman VS3 ... Battery/charger???

    Hello MCB,

I got a good looking VS3 at a good price this weekend, it came with both smooth and rifled back and 2 tips.
This is the first electo (without counting the C3) I own in the last 10+ years ... So now I have some questions for the experts ...

It came with a wall charger, so I plugged it overnight ... And the light stayed on all about 3 seconds ...
I did manage to trip the shear once, so I believe the board is good but the battery is absolutely dead ...

It is an original 9.6v Spyder rechargeable batteries.

    Here come the questions:
    - where can I get a replacement one?
    - is charging it through the wall charger OK?
    - Any alternative to those batteries?

And as a more general question, how does it shoot? is it worth keeping it as a loaner/backup?

    Thanks y'all,
    X

I've got a Spyder VS2 at the moment with the same battery issue. Charged it for a long time, but it's dead. You can get replacement 9.6v batteries. Amazon has a few under Powerex brand. There's supposed to be issues with using just a standard 9v.

My VS2 leaks through the bottom line reg haven't been able to fix it yet. Replaced the o-rings but leaks through the velocity adjustment. To run a standard reg you need an adaptor because of stupid design choices. CP makes one. The valve is supposed to be quite good for a Spyder though.

One thing to watch out for on the VS3 is there's metal around the barrel that prevents some barrels from being used. Not looking like an issue for you with the barrels you have.

Does the VS3 have a rocking trigger?

Yeah its a rocking trigger. I tried everything including gutted the shims entirely and just trying it as a regular asa. Still pissed out the side.

It is a rocker ... Always been intrigued by them ...

I could never get that asa on my old vs2 to stop pissing air. I want to try a another vs2 cause they supposed to shoot nice and its trigger was so bouncy and walkable you could rip it super fast. Always wanted to try a rocking trigger frame. Best luck getting this marker sorted out. .

Glad I'm not the only one to have this issue! Was starting to question paintball teching abilities.

Thanks for the info, haven't aired it up yet ...
I'll air it up and plug it to my power supply set at 9.6v before spending any time and money on it.
It seam like a good candidate for backup loaner but I'm concerned about the battery.

Does the board or charger have charge control to protect the new battery?

That I don't know but I think it's the board as the charger looks to be a pretty standard power supply.

That is a 9.6 VDC NiMH battery in a "9Volt" package. They are fairly common here is a link:

        https://www.amazon.com/Powerex-Self-...1FV0U5WG&psc=1

Pretty sure any 9.6 VDC battery you can get to fit in the space will work but the space is pretty limited most likely why they chose that package. NiMH batteries do not have long shelf lives and degrade over time. I would replace that battery with new production and plan on replacing on an annual basis.

Pay attention when you buy rechargeable 9v batteries. Make sure they are 9.6v. Most marketed as rechargeable 9v’s only put out 8.4v and will likely not work well in a spyder e-frame.

I purchased a 2 battery and charger set from ANS for an e-spyder I picked up. My old batteries were all dead. The brand was Valor and apparently made my Tenergy. They offer them in 9.6v and 8.4v so read carefully. I haven’t had a chance to really put the batteries through their paces, but for The little bit of testing I did with paint, they seem to do the job nicely. I would recommend looking into them for a good replacement for an e-spyder.

here is the link from ANS but I think they are on Amazon as well: https://www.ansgear.com/Tenergy_Valo...96valorkit.htm

The Powerex 9.6 battery works great. I've been using the same one for 5 years now. If you use it a lot I'd recommend getting a dedicated charger (make sure it's 9.6 rated) and not charge through the board. You'd only need to charge it about 6k shots, or if it has sat for a while. Disconnect the battery when not in use will help keep it charged when stored.

Reg rebuild is pretty easy. There's a youtube video of some super long winded process, but it's complete. What's happening is that the pin that actuates your on/off rips the orings on that shaft. I rebuilt mine and just left it in the on position.

YES!! whew, finally im done with this mini work.Any questions, just comment or pm me.Comment, like and subscribe!!

I've had bad luck (JaggedX5593 too) with the Tenergy ones. I use them in my revvy now. I keep to the Powerex from Amazon and the X2Power from Batteries+.

Thanks! I’ll do another rebuild on my VS2 and leave it in the on position.

The tenergy valor ones were within my budget because I wanted the charger. I have a powerex battery. It worked alright when it was new but after sitting a few years it was kaput. I figured 2/$25 with a stand-alone charger was a good gamble. Reviews on them were few and far between.

That video helped a lot, thanks. It could do without the roosters though. Managed to get my VS2 not to leak but also won’t shoot…. So better?!

Well, aired it up today, and it leak out of the side of the on/off 😣
I'll confirm all the electronic works before getting parts for it and rebuilding it ... Then will go from there, keep it and freak bore a back or sell it ...

Word of warning, if you are following the rebuild video ChoSanJuan posted, when the guy says to "be very careful with the set screw on top of the reg holding the internal stem with 2 tiny o-rings and that you will be screwed if you strip it" he means it. Mine was already partially stripped and I couldn't get it out. Now working on slotting it so I can use a flat head to remove and replace. It should take a 1.5mm allen key.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out on those.
The leak came out the opposite side of the on/off knob ... Right behind that c-clip ...

the rocking trigger was neat when it came out. makes it easier to walk the trigger. one nice thing though is that it dosent have allot of lateral movement like the vs2 trigger.
the mini on/off reg is a pain. they all seem to leak like that, mine included. bring spare o-rings to the field if you intend to use it.

the vs/rs series were kingmans cream-of-the-crop back then. the best you could get in the product line.

What about replacing it with a standard asa or on/off?
do they use the regular mounting pattern or the spider offset one?

This is why I'm considering keeping it ... I don't have a "normal/modern" form factor gun, all I have are pumps and older/exotic/fussy (ie: not always functional) gun. My backup has been my Vector for a while now (and I LOVE it!), but it's not ideal as a loaner for newer player ...

My concern with the VS3 is the battery ...

you wont (shouldn't) have a problem with the battery.
The miniregs are a pain. IIRC they are a dovetail mount. like most things, there are adapters you can use. they also have threaded in-line holes.
i believe one thing should just do one thing.
cp sells adapters if you wanted to used a standard reg.

they are great, but heavy. super easy to work on though.

Looking at it again, i may just swap the on/off/asa/reg thingy with a regular asa and put a regular reg on there ...

The front grip comes off, and the hole in the "front flock" is the right size to be treaded for 1/4"NPT.
A 1/4MNPT to 1/8FNPT with a 1/8NMPT to asa "cocker" adapter should do the trick ...
(unless i can find asa to 1/4"MNPT directly ...)

Good call and probably will only benefit performance. .

                    #15
If you do that and find you are having to raise the air pressure a lot to get field velocity, you are probably running into volume issues. As another alternative you can use the Spyder Java grip mounted regulator, which is fine, or a Palmer Female Stabilizer.

I've got the Female Stab to air-through grip (air expansion) setup on one of my markers and it works great.
