    Locating 9.6v battery and charger?

What's the current solution to running these old imagine's that need 9.6v power? I have several here that appear to work but a regular 9v battery can't trip the sear when they are underload on any of them so they are either all bad or the 9v just can't power any of them. Before tossing them I would like to try a 9.6v to know for sure. Seems like the picking are pretty slim for a battery and even slimmer for the charger. I would rather not spend $60 bucks on a potential one time use item if they all are broken if I can avoid it.

      What 9v are you using?

      Replaced any capacitors?

I've been using a USB-C rechargeable 1300mAH Li-ion 9v in my E99 and have had no issues so far. They're relatively enexpensive too at ~$11-15 per pair on Amazon. They work well in my Revvies too.

Not sure if its the exact same brand, but probably something like below. Was looking at getting a pair myself to power my PM6 & Spyder Pilot. A more in-depth/testing review stated they do a constant 9v, but are closer to only ~450mah capacity. But that is just under how much a typical alkaline disposable one averages, so no biggie there.

I'm using new energy paintball ones. Ive tried rayovac 9v as well with the same results. They run my vs1 perfectly but can't do much on the older ones I have.
I haven't touched the caps. I could see maybe one be bad but not 4. Without a proper 9.6v I don't think I will be able to know for sure either.

I'd try Duracell, Energizer or Amazon batteries before spending a bunch of money on 9.6v.

Rayovac is not known for high quality and it wouldn't surprise me to find that energy paintball is using cheap batteries to make a quick buck.

Spyder specific I don't think I've ever had a board with the problems you are describing let alone 4. I've had bad capacitors sure but I've never had a spyder that I could not get working on a normal name brand 9v

I thought my Etek 3 was broken turns out the Rayovac I was using was having a hard time running the board kept powering off. Threw in an old Duracell ran fine.

Harbor Freight rechargeable NiMh 9.6 batteries worked well in my last ESP frame. Cheap enough to carry extras.

I don't think they make them anymore. I haven't seen them for years. I used to use them.

In terms of 9.6V batteries, Powerex and Tenergy (marketed as Valor batteries) are the two companies that make them. Apparently Batteries Plus markets some too, but they're about twice the price.

As for chargers, there used to be someone on ebay selling new third-party chargers for around $16. You can also pick up a Powerex MH-C490F-DCW. It's supposed to be able to charge 9.6V's.

Another option is to get an RC smart charger and soldering on a 9V battery clip. That's what I ended up doing, and it seems to work fine.

I bought the X2 Power at the one down the road. Was almost 25 bucks!

That's way too expensive. For that price, you could buy 2 Valor batteries

I tested my 9.6V X2 Power with a DMM yesterday. I thought maybe it was not outputing correct. Because after only 500 shots, the clapper was failing to trip the sear. Said on the box that they come fully charged, maybe not I guess. So I plugged in my E-Frame wall charger, and left it for about 90 minutes. My charger does not have a light to indicate when done, so I did not want to leave it in for hours, and ruin the battery. Reader said 10.76V. Weird right? Just fired 40ish shots in my Raven Nexion with it, no problem. I was using my Spyder Flash that day though. Hoping it does not rain this weekend. That Nexion shoots SO GOOD!

Around 10.6V is around what they put out when they're fresh off the charger, so that sounds about right. I would highly recommend getting a smart charger of some sort. That'll prevent them from overcharging and damaging the battery. Plus you can leave them connected and they'll maintenance change.

So a new Energizer didn't work on two of them so I'm going to replace the caps just because it's cheaper than batteries lol. I did order a powerex 9.6v from Amazon. Batteries plus did have them for $21 so not a ton more than Amazon's $15ish. I will use one of my rc smart chargers to charge for now if I can find it. If it wasn't for sentimental value I wouldn't even bother with these imagines but now I'm down the rabbit hole.

You can also find aftermarket boards that will take a regular 9v.

Success with one of the guns so that's 3 in total fixed so far with just one remaining. The new cap fixed the last imagine I cared about. The remaining one still has issues with firing which may be board related or solenoid. It clicks but not hard.
I'm happy with the outcome at any rate. I'm planning on turning one into a good shooter and the others will be loaners.

The 9.6v batteries I bought off Amazon are both dead.. came to me with zero charge and won't accept a charge either. The packages look good and best to hell so I'm guessing they have been sitting in a warehouse for years. I've requested replacements so we shall see if those are any better.

there are wedsites and store that will custom build packs for you. Years back i had a custom 9.6v pack made about the size of a pocket protector. i used it for testing.
not sure if R&D would make a custom pack with a 9v connector but it might be worth a shot to go (or look) in that direction.

edit: i see you only want to test the marker and youre not looking long term. what about getting a 9.6v power supply and wiring a 9v connector to it. if its just for testing?

When I worked in a shop we almost never had issues using standard 9v's after replacing the capacitors with new ones but for the few that did we would adjust the amount of throw on the pancake solenoid. On some frames there was a set screw that controlled the distance the pancake solenoid was allowed to travel.. a tiny turn on that and we were back in the ball game. If there's no set screw then we would shim it.

I didn't see any grub screw adjustments so I'm going to shim them with a dime or something.

A dime is massive .. you have to make sure the sear will still reliably catch..
