    EMF scope options

Ok, I could use a little MCB brain trust action here. After playing last weekend I've decided to put some kind of an optic on my EMF build. This is a dedicated FSR platform. What I noticed happening was when I missed people in games it was because I was either high or low on my shots. They were pretty spot on left to right so after digging around a bunch and figuring out crossbow optics won't work for me because I would loose the magnification functions I've decided on going with a LPVO that is first focal plane so I can more accurately gauge distances.

After days of digging around and shouldering my brother's vortex 1-6x I found that I doubt I'm going to need more than 4x. So finding options I've come across a few that I really like but wanted the MCB opinion on what you would go with and why

    Option 1) 1-5x 24mm
    https://www.texasprecisionoptics.com...19171ef5&_ss=r

    Pros
    $80 on the bay
    Lighter (14.9oz)
    Eye relief 4.7-4.9"

    Cons
    Pretty basic reticle
    Longer 9.3"

    Option 2) 1-6x 28mm

    https://www.texasprecisionoptics.com...inated-reticle

    Pros
    More detailed reticle
    Shorter 7.5"

    Cons
    $225
    Eye relief 3.4-3.8"
    Heavier 16.7 oz
Since I'm not sure I'll use it past 4x I'm concerned the reticle may get a bit lost

Ok. Actually just found a 3rd option I'm heavily considering

    https://monstrumtactical.com/g2-1-4x...earch_query=G2

    $100 with everything
    16oz
    9.6" long
    4-4.5" eye relief
Reticle isn't perfect but it's decent

      My opinion?
There is a difference between sights and scopes.
In paintball, sights can be useful but scopes can be detrimental. This is just my experience.

Scopes are generally large paint magnets. You often use them while closing the other eye. Magnification distorts distance.

Sights, on the other hand, add much less to your profile or silhouette. Their use generally requires both eyes open. Able to see both sides of the field.
Magnification is great for distance accuracy, but distance in paintball is limited. It can distort not the distance you can shoot, but the distance you have to run.

I'm a fan of the Occluded Eye Sights. The Armson Pro-Dot comes to mind.
Small, lightweight, no batteries, adjustable reticule. No eye relief needed.

It really depends on the game you're playing. A man playing the snake on airball field may have a different opinion.

Yeah I get all that, I'm just specifically setting this up to be a long distance FSR platform while still keeping the ability to play at 1x. I'm not considering any scope that can't do 1x.

One of the reasons I want magnification happened last weekend. Playing in the woods, I have the red dot already, between the shadows and shapes in the woods.... Is that a hopper? Or a branch? An elbow or a rock?

People say you don't need magnification to spot/aim at a person at 100 yards for FSR. That's true. But what about just the hopper? Just the side of a mask? The targets I was trying to identify and shoot at were not whole people standing in the open

It's definitely a different style of play for me and I think that's why I'm enjoying it, I'm focusing on the capabilities of the platform and enjoying that our sport has gotten to the point that you can legitimately create a "sniper" roll without having to be milsim tacticool bro.

For a while I considered doing a red dot with a magnifier but there's 2 problems with that, 1) that forces me to choose 1 magnification and I expect to play at a lot of different fields where only 1 magnification may not be suitable for everything and 2) I didn't find any red dot that has elevation markings because they are all set up for firearms that don't need it with only a red dot.

After much experience I advise either a good holo + magnifier on an adjustable riser or the Supremacy scope. The only scope worth putting $ into for paintball is the supremacy. Like I said a 2x red dot or something on an adjustable riser (this part is key) is great for threading the needle like mid and short range shots. Longer shots, Supremacy.

I'm looking at longer shots but here take a look at this comparison between the 3rd scope I have and the supremacy

            G2
            Magnification: 1-4x first focal plane
            FOV (@100 yards): 103.29 - 26.4 ft
Objective Diameter: 24 mm (30mm tube)
            Eye Relief: 4 - 4.5 in
            Weight: 16 oz
            Length: 9.6 in
            Warranty: Lifetime Warranty
Price : $100 with mounts and throw ring

            Supremacy
            Magnification: 1-4x first focal plane
            FOV: "about" 120ft
Objective diameter: not listed (30mm tube)
            Eye relief: 3.8-4.2"
            Weight: 24oz
            Length: 10"
            Warranty: 2 year
            Price: $395

4x the price, and at least on paper what am I getting?

From experience I have to tell you....
I have bought all the gimmicks out there and if I could sell it all and buy another supremacy I would. When you are shooting rounds as expensive as FSR it is important to be able to predict the trajectory for any number of reasons not the least of which is being able to hit hard targets like masks to ensure a break. Threading the needle through branches is another.

With the Supremacy you literally use the reticle to guage distance and you are on target already. If you really want to hit your target ESPECIALLY at distance, there is no substitute. Worth every penny. Mine damn near paid for itself at Supergame.

Yes that's what I've heard, but what's it doing that the G2 I have here isn't? The only thing I see is having the distance markings on the reticle, not really a $300 upgrade since I can just figure out which marking on the G2 equal which distances.

On paper I would be spending $300 more to get a different reticle, possibly no warranty and less eye relief. Why?

Edit: updated the supremacy specs. I had to write to carmatech to get them. It's long, heavy and only has a 2 year warranty. I'm leaning towards the G2.

The reticle being mask sized at different ranges are really helpful in getting on target quickly. My experience has been that once I'm zeroed using something other than a supremacy, I am spending rounds dialing into various ranges I haven't shot yet. At range it gets hard to watch fall of shot. The supremacy has bypassed alot of that. Just my .02 brother

magfed sniper Can you comment on the Supremacy's glass/clarity compared to less expensive options? From my experience with scopes on real steel, glass/clarity is fairly proportional to price. I'm just thinking this may help Trbo323 in his decision, so he can tell at the longer ranges if he's looking at a "hopper, branch, elbow, or rock".

Trbo323 Maybe I missed it, but how do you plan to determine range with the lower cost options? With the trajectory of an FSR, it seems being even a few yards off at the longer distances would result in a miss.

Yes the Supremacy is very clear. It has graded light intensity to the reticle so it is easy to see in dark underbrush/low light etc. After trying everything under the sun I really stand by the Supremacy.

Here is one of my semi auto FSR Platforms. So I found the BEST sniper rig happens to be in Real Tree so I colored all of my FSR shooters that use DAM mags to match. The supremacy comes with caps and a honey comb and quick dial for Magnification. I found that little 9ci tank to go with my adjustable stock.

Great question, and this is what largely lead me down this rabbit hole of first focal plane scopes.

Here's the two reticle options for the G2

In the second one the box is 20moa so I have a 20 moa reference in either reticle. Basically put cross hair on target, if, whatever I can see of them I believe the scale will put their shoulders in that 20moa, then I know they are at 100 yards. If shoulders would be outside the box I know they are closer. If one side of the box is in the middle of their chest and the other side is on a shoulder then they are at 50 etc

I'll need to figure out what I want my zero distance to be but I figure I'll probably start with the longest I'm expecting to shoot at 4x, maybe 110yards and work backwards from there. So I'll set up the scope to land one of the lowest elevation marks at 110. I'll need to find somewhere to dial in at 110 yards but I can manage that. From there work my way up the elevation scale to figure out which elevation marks equate to which distances

Supremacy says there's something in theirs to assist with range estimation, I suspect the circles in the reticle equate to something but it's not listed on the web page what that is and the link to the manual is still down

Trbo323 Circles are for a mask. I think the curved lines are for a 6ft tall person. Personally, after reviewing this thread and from my experience with real steel scopes, I’d go with the Supremacy, but I fully understand the cost hesitation.
