Over the next little while I'm going to be doing a pump kit comparison looking specifically Sniper pump kits. If you have questions please let me know or comment on a post.

Disclosure:
I had paid for all of these kits myself, have no connection to any paintball retails or manufactures other than being a fan of the autococker platform. I own all but one of the guns being used for this comparison. That gun is a lovely CCM S6. Where possible I will try to mention any biases I may have or that may arise. Most information will be objective, but there will be portions of subjective opinions presented, in particular the actual feel of the pump handles. One of my kits, the CCM kit, is older has as been replaced by an updated kit. I will make mention of this when reviewing that specific kit.

The Guns:
This isn't about the guns, but it's a good reference to know what I am using as these kits are not all on identical platforms and vary slight.

WGP 2K5 Black Magic Halfblock uses a standard CCM pump kit for a half block. Currently has no trigger frame.

Empire Sniper using a standard WGP pump kit but ID hammer and pump rod

WGP Karnivor full body using a CCM Karni EZ pump kit. This has been more go-to marked for over a decade now.

System X Dragon with Slice pump kit. This is my current build, borrowed trigger frame from Black Magic. Not sprung properly as of May 24, 2021)

CCM Series 6 with standard CCM pump kit. This is my brother-in-law's gun and the only one I do not own.

WGP Prostock loaner gun using the Inceptions Designs pump kit. Gun isn't the prettiest, but is sprung identically to my Black Magic. This will be the gun I will use if I switch pump kits onto different guns. It is also not shown in the photo below.

2k RF body (not shown) will be the test bed for the Genesis kit.

The Inception Designs Pump Kit:

Here's Inception Design's premium pump kit. Features a fluted main pump rod, a secondary pump rod and an easy to remove pump arm that has a threaded bolt and wrench flats.

And a look more specifically at the body of the pump kit. Note the wider block with a lip that attached to the bottom of the body to prevent the pump frame from twisting:


Now for an in-depth look at the pump handle itself. It's the back plate is recessed into the pump's grip, held on by two bolts. The third bolt connects the cocking rod, which makes for much quicker removal of the pump handle. There are also inserts in the pump kit (one shown removed, once installed) in the pump plate for added smoothness. And finally the return spring:


Pump kit installation:

Installing thing pump kit is very simple. There's an Allen head in the tip of the main pump rod, simple tighten this down, making sure the kit is kept straight so the little lit sits under the body of the gun. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.



And just slide the pump kit onto the guide rods, throw your back block onto the cocking rod and you're done with the install. Don't forget to put your bolt and cocking rod back in!

CCM Kit: (Older Style CCM kit)

This is old school Deluxe-style CCM kit, which has been replaced by the updated standard CCM pump kit with the classic style pump handle. This kit also features a hitman pump plate. I do not know if this is an original CCM plate or not, I'm sure someone will clarify in the comments below. This kit features dual pump rod, a main and a secondary. There is no lip of the pump rod base, so it is held on by pressure. I have not experienced the pump kit twisting personally, so never been an issue.



Here are all the bits and pieces once disassembled. This pump kit has three bolts connecting the pump handle to the pump plate There is no bushings or inserts between the pump handle, block and pump rods. The pump arm threads directly into the pump plate with no quick or easy means of removal.



As this is an older kit you need to install it using a wrench. There are wrench flats at the base of the main pump rod and it's quick and easy to install the pump kit. Be sure you have the lower guide rod straight before tightening down so your pump doesn't bind.



CCM has a variety of different pump handles, including different styles and lengths. I have a mini handle (translucent), regular handle (on the S6, shown at the bottom) and an EZ Pump handle on the Karnivor (shown on the top). CCM does make other pump handle styles as well. The S6 also has a fluted pump rod.

Original CCM Deluxe came several years before the Hitman Mod existed. I am a huge fan of the original Deluxe kit and still rock one from circa 2001 today on my 2K Sniper.

The Inception Genesis Kit:

The budget kit from Inceptions Designs. Still well made and very stable. Has a tab the fits under the front of the body to Kit the kit straight and stable. No noticeable twisting at all. That lip may cause problems on non-WGP spec bodies. Will not fit my System X body.

Kit comes with pump arm, pump return spring.




The Slice Kit:

Another premium kit that is extremely customizable. Choose your colours, your front and back plate materials, your plastic grip frame "slice" that even has adjustable sizes of pump handle. I've got a premium kit with red slice and gloss black front and rear caps.

I’ve changed marker configurations since ai originally posted this, so the Slice kit is now of my Black Magic and the Dragon is now a mech.







Features the same style of easy installation of most modern pump kits. Allan key on the end of the main pump rod, and there's a smaller set screw to hold the secondary pump rod in place allowing for just the right fit to not be rubbing your rod or binding on your barrel.

The Other Pump Kits:

These are kits you're not going to buy separately or used unless you buy a gun with them already installed.

WGP pump kit:

This is the old style quite frankly crappy pump. Single pump rod, nothing to prevent twisting other than a fat barrel.


The main pump rod (and the only pump rod) has wrench flats at the end of it for easy installation. There's no pump plate and the cocking rod is threaded directly into the pump handle. The pump handle is shaped to gently cup and caress your barrel, which helps prevent the kit from twisting, but only a little.



Up next I've thrown in an Pretty In Pink Empire Sniper:

This puppy has a dual pump rods and a single main pump rod for your stroking pleasure. In my example below the standard pump rod has been replaced by an
Inception Design fluted pump rod. It looks to be interchangeable with the ID pump kit's rod as well. The nifty thing about this kit is ability to easy add the hitman mod, or remove it as to your whim. The dual cocking rods are attached to the pump block by bolts, which is nice, but has a drawback. If you over tighten the bolt and twist the rod you create uneven pump arms which cause binding and very poor pump stroke. Avoid this! ( I did not when reinstall the pump...)

As a late addition, I got my paws on a Check-It 2k pump kit as well, so I’m adding it in. The pump Kit itself is well made, and very similar to a CCM kit. The pump handles are interchangeable between the kits. The Check-it does have an Allen key hole on the tip of the main pump rod, making it easy to tight down.




The pump handle is most unique part of this kit. It runs the same length as the CCM kit with the hitman plate, so slightly longer, but has large o-rings around the handle providing excellent grip. The face of the pump handle is also flat, making it comfortable to hold you finger across it, however you choose to do so.

Pump Rods:

Like many things in life, these rods come in various shapes and sizes. Some are round, some have ridges.

Starting from the top:
ID Empire Sniper guide rod
ID Drift pump kit rods - it's chonky
CCM kit (old school) - it's red
Slice pump kit.

Not shown: WGP pump rod. It's long, it's black. We'll just leave it at that.

And for additional comparison, here is the same red CCM pump rods with the Check-It rods, which has a slightly shorter main rod. Without a direct comparison it looks very similar to the Slice pump kit’s rod.



And for a further comparison, here is the same CCM kit in comparison to the ID Genesis kit. I've included a comparison of the pump handles as well and am squeezing this all in. The ID features the same larger block as the Drift kit, but has a wider main rod.

The ID Genesis Pump handle is slightly shorter than the CCM mini handle and has no back plate. It's done similar to the Empire and Slice pump handles, so it cups the barrel ever so gently and thankfully has a rounded front end!

Pump Handles:
Going from left to right on these bad boys and sneaking in a few handles I've yet to mention. How's that for consistency!

First handle on the left: CCM EZ pump kit, next is ID Drift kit, red with black handle is the Slice Kit, translucent is the CCM, then the the stock Empire Sniper handle and finally the WGP one. This gives a general overview of the different sized, with he middle pumps all generally being a similar length and width.

Pump Handle Fronts:

Why?! Because they make a huge difference on the feel of the pump in hand. I like to wrap a finger around the front of my pump handles. If you prefer to just pinch the handle then skip this section as it makes no difference to you!

Conclusions and thoughts:

I'll add to this as I'm going but wanted get some feedback down as this thread is going together at a glacial pace.

CCM EZ Pump Kit: This has been my go-to pump kit for over a decade. I really like, very comfortable and easy to grip. My favourite look of any CCM handle. This is what I judge all other pumps off of. Main complaint is it's a pain to remove the cocking rod from the handle, so I never do.

Inceptions Designs Drift Pump Kit: There's a lot to like packed into this pump kit. Easy to remove the pump rod from the handle making disassembly a breeze. I really wanted to like this kit but I just find the design of the pump handle to be too uncomfortable to use. I hold my finger on an angle across the front of my pump hands, which if fine for any other pump handle listed above. The ID kit requires you finger to be horizontal or else I find it digs into my finger bone. It's uncomfortable after shooting a 20 balls and I just don't want to use it for an entire day.

Inception Designs Genesis Pump Kit: INITIAL IMPRESSION. First and foremost, this kit features a round front on the pump handle instead of the notch on the more expensive Drift kit. I find it much more comfortable to use. The action is nice, the supplied return spring feels comfortable. There is some minor twisting of the pump handle as a little loose play from the guide, but very minor and still feels secure. The only small things I have noticed so far is the grooves on the pump handle are shallow, provided less grip than the comparable CCM kit. After handling it a bit longer I still have the perception that the handle is a little slippery. Trying different gloves made if feel a little better or worse. I compared the feel to my other pump handles and it was similar in grip to my EZ pump kit, but less grippy than the standard CCM handle. The shortness of the pump may affect this with very large hands. I’m fine and my wrist doesn’t contact the reg while pumping, but it is close. For reference I wear a large size glove generally, so XL folks might have an issue. Despite the little things (they are very minor) this kit offers and excellent bang for the buck, feels well made and looks good. I can also buy it in Canada, which means this jumps to the top of my list for a pump build.

Slice Pump Kit: Finally got to play a day with my Slice kit. It felt fantastic. Easy to hold, comfortable, cleaned up easily. This kit closely resembles the CCM kits and the pump handles are even interchangeable. The biggest difference between the two kits is you can actually buy a Slice kit from the retailer, where as CCMs you'll be paying an inflated price (at least in 2021) on the used market. Add to it the customizability and it's really hard to beat the Slice kit. Heck, they even offer basic kits all the way up to premium kits! Most basic pump kits have long since disappeared. My only knock on the Slice kit is I wish there was an all metal pump option. The red's not quite what I has after and running a black pump handle with gloss red caps would likely have been a better choice.

Check-It Kit: I have not had a chance to play with it, but comparing it to the other handles it is very similar in feel, with the addition of the large rubber orings. This gives the pump handle a better feel in your hands and lets you dig your grip on a bit more than with sold plastic handles. It likely is much easier to grip when slippery, for those playing in poor weather. And I find the front of the pump handle comfortable across my front finger. To my knowledge these are no longer in production and may be bought on the used market.

So in the end, this comes down to the ID and the Slice kit, as pretty much anything CCM makes is instantly sold out and then sold for a premium by scalpers. Despite some nice features on the ID pump kit, the Slice wins. It's similarly smooth to the ID kit, more customizable, and most importantly a lot for comfortable. If I am ever in the market for a new kit I will be buying a Slice Kit.

Drift Handle Issues:

While the fit and finish of the Drift kit is excellent, one aspect of the handle design really hinders an otherwise excellent kit.

The design of the front of the pump handle does not work for me at all. The lower lip just digs into my finger and is very uncomfortable. It the lip was taken completely off on the bottom it would likely be fine, but as it stands in your front finger goes across this section of the pump handle outside of where the groove it cut then this is not the pump kit for you.
