    Impressions with a Meteor Pump

Finally hit the field today and dusted off my Meteor pump for the very first time. I’d gotten it all setup and ready when I first got it, including dropping in a Lazarus valve. But we all know shorting at a target isn’t the same as playing with it on the field.

I was running a DW with standard freak, which gripped my balls nicely. No roll outs. I chrono’d about 280 and but would vary depending on the roundness of the paint. Paint was small, but good enough to use.

So how did it do? Fantastic, quite frankly. Comfortable in my hands, smooth pump stroke and nice trigger. I had my most eliminations playing with the Meteor. I only put it away when my Karni reg decided to vent… likely the ancient reg seal finally went. Been meaning or order a few rebuild kits always.

Now I fully admit I am biased towards pumps, but I have some fairly high standards having built pumps when CCM parts were both obtainable and affordable. The
Meteor feels top notch. Even the field manager was impressed with the light pump stroke and shot.

I think meteor has 2 left of their feather v series 2 bodied guns. One blue and one silver. I could be wrong.

I got one last week. Honestly, a bit of a disappointing experience. Right out of the box, no barrel. They shipped the two additional sizers I ordered for the barrel I did not receive. No response to emails and just sent them a message through their website tonight. The regulator was missing an o ring, once that was fixed the pin in the asa leaked as well, changed the oring to a different size and got it to seal. Another leak behind the pump, more changing of orings. Put about 200 shots through it and the return spring for the trigger began hanging up. Best fix was adjusting and oil. I get some assembly and tuning required but that just seemed like a lot of “figure it out” for brand new. It does shoot nice now that it doesn’t leak out of three places and with the barrel I provided.

I suspect that the compressors at Jaegers are currently "dirty". I've had at least two guns leak on me last time I was out, and NEITHER of them actually had bad "o" rings that needed to be replaced. Just disassembled, cleaned the "o" rings and reassembled and they were working perfectly again. The common factor between both of my guns and your meteor is they are all using the same fill station. That would explain why everything was leaking everywhere....

It leaked directly out of the box. The next day with different air it leaked again. I watched Nate tech it. One leak at a time. He was nice enough to come meet me at Jaegers and spend a couple hours along with Eric to help me tinker with it. First was a missing oring in the regulator. Then an oring around the pin in the asa that was the wrong size. Obviously. Next was two more behind the pump that were leaking just above and in front of the trigger in the lower tube. Sorry, I’m not familiar enough to specify exactly which ones. Eric and I went through the trigger frame the next day after all the leaks were fixed the evening before when I brought it up to shoot it and the trigger began sticking. I didn’t have time to put more paint through it beyond setting the regulator and adjusting velocity the previous evening. I’ve never had any issues with dirty air causing any of my markers to leak. I’ve not heard of that being a problem for anyone else there either. I understand that dirt and debris would cause orings to leak. You are more experienced than me though. My T2 didn’t leak on the same air, nor my cvo, nor a nova cocker we were testing leaky Pro V2 regs with at the same time. The next day there were no problems with markers leaking either. The air in my tank that I used to gas the marker up directly out of the box did not cause my other markers to leak previously and was from a fill a few weeks ago that I gassed other markers with. I guess I could be wrong and it was dirty air but I really don’t think so.

If Nathan and Eric looked at it, then it definitely wasn't just a dirty fill. That's kind of wild yours had so many problems.

Well, gotta update. Mine shoots super nice with a little help from Latches! Not sure what the disconnect was with getting ahold of Fab at Meteor but once the line of communication got established he was very quick to make sure the missing barrel and sizer made it. In the meantime Latches was nice enough to offer to tune it. Smooth light pump stroke and a nice flat shot… These are still up for sale on Meteors site, I can say I REALLY like it. Big thanks again to Latches!
