WGP Ranger Questions

Snagged an old WGP Ranger, any sources for information on these? Plan on going through it and fully rebuilding, anything I need to watch out for?

First Nelson based marker I've ever owned, wouldn't mind setting it up for stock class/12g play, but I have never ran stock class either!

If it doesn't have the internally adjusted bolt, you'll spend some time getting the springs right to figure out your velocity.

Great news is that the Ranger was threaded for AC barrels.

Pretty sure they are bore drop. If I am remembering that right I might have seen somewhere that manike may still have some trracer bolts that might work for this gun and give you velocity adjustment.

Yes Greystone, Autococker springs will work in Nelson based guns.

Tracer bolts are too long to fit in the Ranger unless he was milling them shorter to fit?

Internals: The valve section is incredibly clean and the threaded insert is very soft, newish looking aluminum, is this something different from stock?

That's definately a bore drop bolt. Does the asa have an adjustment screw in it? Many Nelson's did velocity from there.

That is a velocity adjustable bolt you have there.

It will only stay cocked when air is put into it. It's likely fine internally besides some old o-rings. Air it up and see if it leaks!

Thats a light weight (Pretty sure) valve spring and a heavy main spring.

As Sethzilla said Most Nelsons won't cock unless you have them pressurized.

That's not the stock ranger valve nut and cup seal. For whatever reason rangers have a solid brass cup and there is an oring on the back of the nut it seals against. It's not a bad thing that it's been changed, I've never got mine to shoot on hpa with the stock valve train but it works great with a lapco #6 power tube.

Forgive my lack of Nelson knowledge, but when the bolt loads a paintball into the barrel, that o-ring should fit inside the barrel, and seal? Was looking at my stash old unused cocker barrels and noticed that some fit the bolt nicely, others have no chamfer, etc. The barrel it came with definitely has a bit of resisitance to the bolt tip o ring being inserted into the bore, albeit being chamfered.

I actually believe these are breach drop, not bore drop. As usual, Bacci Paintball is a great resource for information on these:

I know that you can use both Ranger and Phantom internals in a 007, so you likely have some cross compatibility on your side. If your Ranger doesn't have a way to adjust the velocity you can likely swap in a CCI bolt. It won't be a perfect plug and play, you'll likely need to modify the sear, but it could be worth looking into.

In regards to the barrel, the o-ring on the bolt should seal, however not all barrels are made equally so you'll probably need to find one that suits you. The barrel you have looks very cool.

Rangers are great guns.

If you look around occasionally you'll see stock class bodies show up for sale. There are a few floating around.
