    Odd Older MaxFlo

I got this older MaxFlo in a lot yesterday. It's the screw in kind but the tank I tried wouldn't screw in. It wouldn't even drop into the threads. I don't know if the threads are screwed up or if it's meant for a proprietary tank valve. The screw in manifold doesn't look like any of the others I've seen. There also looks to be a proprietary seal in the bottom of the piston instead of the 003 orings there normally are. It looks to be a high pressure version given the smaller piston, not sure if that makes a difference.

Look closely at the threads. They are likely left hand threaded. It requires the special bottle adapter that matched.

Yep, probably left-hand threads. Takes a 3K PSI, unregulated tank, directly. I have a couple, myself. (Tanks are of course long out of date.)

Before the advent of what we now know as screw-in HPA systems, you had the option of getting your Shocker set up with an HPA-capable Max Flow. That got you a 3K fiber-wrap tank, with an on/off pinvalve, that was identical to a normal pinvalve, except left-hand threaded so you couldn't accidentally screw it into an old Pro-Lite or something, and kill four nuns and a duck with the resulting explosion.

They're fairly rare, and were often separated from the tanks. Most of the tanks have probably been chucked by now, so it'd likely take a bit of work to find one of the valves.

However, the reg itself will plug right in to a much-more-common CO2/screw-in-HPA manifold, which should be common and easy to find.

Addendum: This Shocker has one of the even more rare lefty-thread bottomlines, connected through stainless instrument tubing to the vertical-mount Max Flow:

That tank is left-hand thread, and sends unregulated tank pressure to the reg. The stainless line has a working pressure of something like 6K PSI, so it's 100% legit.

My first PV1 came with the reverse threaded MaxFlo with an on/off on the valve. 3000 psi tank.

Alright thanks guys, I figured it was something like that. Any thoughts on the piston/seal?

Early model Max. The later ones used an easier-to-source common O-ring.

Is anyone familiar with what the oring size for the piston is on this model. It looks to either be an 011 or 012 but I can't tell. Also any idea of the one on the plastic sealing piece that goes in the piston?

This is what I can dig up. The original owner's manual I have does not state an oring size. It only states that the overhaul kit comes with them. I can get more pics of the remainder of the instructions if you need them.

I'm fine with this thanks. I appreciate the offer. None of the manuals online are for this gen of MaxFlo. None of the Shocker manuals even had diagrams of it.

scottieb I would like pics, if you wouldn't mind. Just for archival, in case this comes up in the future.
