    Crossover Electronics Issues

Just got a crossover in and the board turns on no matter what the selector switch position is. Any thoughts?

Check the magnet on the trigger. There is a specific position it needs to be in to trip the board correctly, see if someone pushed it in or pulled it out a lot.

I tried both the magnets on the trigger in multiple positions and no difference. I'm not sure how that relates to the selector switch. Not even sure how the selector switch relates to the board.

If you take out the battery, air up the gun, move the selector switch to the first position from safe, does it fire in mechanical mode like it should?

Yes mech mode works no issues. Just the electronics. The solenoid also gets stuck in the forward position too sometimes. I figure it just needs the help of the valve pin to reset properly.

Something else strange is that the trigger pull seems abnormally short in the electronic position. Fine in the mech and locked in the safe.

The position of the magnet determines when the board registers a "click", so if it is too far forward it will never register to "fire", and if it is too far back the board will think it is still firing and do weird things.

Have you tried resetting the board? With a fresh battery.

              Reset Programming to Factory Defaults
              1. Turn on the Electronics
              2. Press and hold the programming button for approximately 10 seconds, then release it.
              3. All LEDs flash red, then the electronics go through the power up sequence.

Still nothing. I set up the trigger the way Tippmann recommend in their upgrade trigger installation video. Trigger travel seems abnormally short in electronic mode. It cycles the solenoid fine, but the trigger is so short I think I'd have trouble walking it or even keeping a ramp.

My bigger concern is still that the electronics are always on whenever there's a battery installed. How exactly does the selector switch interface with the electronics?

Try this... take the board out if you can, plug the battery in and turn the board on by hitting the programming button. If the board responds normally out of the gun (let's you interact with it, it blinks...) then it's possible the trigger and board don't work together.

The selector on the HAL board works by the position of the magnet between those two ears on the board, which detect the magnet position. If that is setup incorrectly, or broken the whole thing won't work in electronic mode.

The short trigger travel is normal because you don't have to physically trip the seer. On my phenom it wasn't a lot, it was some, so I wonder if the trigger isn't correct in some way.

Just in case: the Manual, has a detail on the trigger assembly.

I contacted Tippmann and they said to try flipping the magnet on the selector over to change the polarity. Still more of the same.

The trigger is probably fine, I just expected a better range of adjustment.

The board also powers on even if the selector is removed from the frame altogether.

Tippmann says the board is probably fried. They're sending me their last crossover board free of charge. Tippmann may have gone downhill, but their customer service is still excellent.

nice! don't throw out your current board, just in case. If that doesn't fix it I'd look into the Ape Board as that uses the HAL selector switch. A universal board would work too but you'd have to do some modding to get to the buttons.

The board came in today. Works perfectly now. It even fixed my solenoid issues.

Nice! I'd ask Tippman if they might be able to repair the original board. It's possible that the programming did become corrupted and reflashing it might bring it back.

Nope just kidding, now it's not working. Was going fine then it just started shutting off randomly. I took the selector switch out and there's some damage to the magnet so I'll see about getting it replaced.
