Stubborn Tippmann Phenom Mechanical - No Shooty

A buddy sent me a Tippmann Phenom mechanical he was having trouble with to see if I fix it. Take the darn thing completely apart, cleaned it, tested the air lines and cannot get it to cycle.

Airs up through the grip without issue. I can hear it pressurize when I put the tank in. If I remove the trigger pin and air it up I get good airflow from that location. Put the pin back in and try and shoot and all I get is a light chuff noise and no cycling.

    Any ideas?

Did you disassemble the valve body and lube it? It’s possible there are dry o rings or maybe swollen ones.

Yes, only thing I could not remove was the brass spacer around the trigger pin.

Best guess is something is backwards in the valve. Tippmann’s video on valve maintenance is the best I’ve found
        https://youtu.be/H3yPrLDNFR0

But you could also check out Rory from ANS. Start around 9:30

One more guess - is there an issue with the little plug in the center of the bolt that slides into the power tube? If it’s broken off or damaged the bolt might not blow forward. There could also be something stuck in the power tube restricting airflow.

In the Valve there are a couple of springs, the inner most spring that sits in the spool is probably missing.
The gun won't leak but the spool is in the wrong position without that spring.

Have it all lined up correctly. Change the oring to something a little smaller and made the air leak out the barrel, but still on’t shoot. It’s also every difficult to remove spool when disassembling. Wondering if the spool and the spacer are getting jammed somehow?! Going to put smaller orings on the spacer and see what happens.

And leaks all over with too small of o-rings, which means it’s getting air, but pull the trigger and all I get is a little puff. I dislike this Phenon…. I can see why my buddy sent it.

My phenom developed this issue a few weeks ago. Finally took it apart and found the big o-ring on the spool had turned to sticky goo. Replaced it, then cleaned, lubed, and reassembled the valve body & gun. Works like a charm again.

Replaced ever single o-ring except where the valve pin is. On the mech version it appears this piece is not shaped for a hex key. Stripped it trying to remove it. Sadly this Phenom is DOA. Also need to send it back to my buddy as well, so thanks for the reminder!

Have you tried removing it with a screw remover? They’ve saved my bacon on a number of occasions and I’m glad I have a set. I don’t think there’s a valve difference between the mech and electro guns - just with the trigger frame. Guessing the brass bushing was stripped before you got it. Thankfully mine came out nice & easy. I was worried it would be a bear to extract.

Sounds like you got a phenom that’s possessed. Sorry man!

I did try to use a set, not sure if I used them properly though. The material has just too soft and stripped.

If you weren't in Canada I'd fix it for you. Not sure it is worth your time shipping across the border.

The set screws for the firing pin should not be in very tight. It's possible someone assembled it incorrectly, or god help you used locktite, or even just tape to seal it.
