I got around to shooting it today and I was stumped for a good bit. It would fire hard at 550psi but would fail to recock. It wasn’t jack hammering like a bad hammer O ring. It would just shoot hard and then nothing. Like a pump that was waiting to be recocked.

I swapped hammer o rings, tried a plethora of different tension main springs, different barrels, and putting a barrel swab down the barrel to try and increase back pressure and it was all the same. No blowback.

I failed to see this when I got the pepperball version of the Pro Carbine which is funny because it’s pretty obvious. It has a sleeve machined in to the stem channel to either drastically reduce blowback or remove it all together. You can see the difference in the pic. The one where you can see the stem is the Pepperball valve.

So, I was just about to drill two very small pinhead size blowback ports on both sides of the pin, clear of the face pillars, but I stopped. Should I do this to this valve? I know it’ll work but I’m thinking that a decreased blowback, high flow, CVX valve is not something that’s very common and I’m not sure I want to modify it. There are a bunch of these out there though right? The pepperball Pro Carbines I mean. So if it’s not as rare as I think it should be fine to modify it. Just want MCB’s opinion here before I move forward. I have no use for this valve in its current form though.

I decided to leave the Pepperball valve alone. I did drill two very small blowback holes on the valve face using a rotary tool. On both sides of the valve stem channel. The pic only shows one but I ended up doing another. It successfully recocked but it’s lacking a little umph. lll try it later with a freak back and size the paint to see if that’ll get it up to par. Even so, I’m dead set on using either my J&J or an old school Tippmann Sniper barrel on it so I’m going to have to up the pressure back up to 600-650psi. A high volume reg like a 2 liter or Sidewinder would do the trick too but I’m happy with where it’s at and want to rock the Intruder.

At some point when you open up flow to the barrel you are going to hit a point where you are allowing all the air out the valve at pretty much the same time. Once you hit that point any further flow out the front is less out the back. It would seem you have hit this point. Opening up the flow out the back will now subtract from the front and just get you back where you were. This may help if your well above 300 fps but t doesn’t sound like you are. I hate to sound like a broken record but higher pressure will solve a lot of your issues.
Also what is the status of your power tube velocity adjuster. If it’s wide open you may want to try turning it in a bit. Worth a shot anyway.

Thanks Chappy. I agree, next tuning day the tank reg will be back up to 600-650psi. I ended up modifying the pepperball valve a little. 2 little blowback ports and I used a small grinding stone in the stem channel to open it up a smidge and smooth it out. Polished it with a Q tip and some aluminum polish.

My velocity screw was wide open and wrapped in teflon. Adjusting it further in the tube to try and redirect some air to blowback is a good idea though if recocking is still an issue with the pepperball valve.

Extra nlowback will solve the recock, at the expense of fos so it’s hard for me to say unless we know you’re already over chrono speed.

Well, I guess it wasn’t finished. Decided to take off the Intruder and put on a reg. I found a Defiant 2 reg I bought awhile back and had forgotten about. I rebuilt it using a bunch of Palmers stuff. I put a CP male/male reg extender on it so it could go in the VASA. I have no idea why I bought this reg extender lol.

Swapped the mid sized volume chamber set up I made for a full size CP gas thru grip. That’ll hold a lot more air and flow faster. Drop forward and steel braided put on. Tank reg adjusted to 700-750 psi.

I’ll be tuning soon so I’ll see what’s what then and update this post.

Well, figured out why that reg was in the “to fix” bin. Max output is 400 psi so it needs another spring. I did discover that the CP top can convert a female Timmy reg to male though so that was a silver lining.

Put the Intruder back on but switched up a couple things. I didn’t gut the Dye Reach tank extender and that was what I was using as a volumizer before. It’s ported very well and I thought that would be useful right before the valve to smooth out airflow. So I swapped the Dye over to extended the Intruder and put a CP reg extender as my volumizer since it’s completely hollow. I also ported the VASA a considerable amount, like quadruple the size it was before. Finally, I ditched the macroline and put on the OG brass tubing with compression fittings. These markers HATE macroline.

So it’s shooting very well at 450psi. I didn’t get to shoot a whole lot because we were tuning my nephew’s Mini GS most of the day but enough to get a feel for it in its new form. I’m going to bump up the pressure to 500psi and that should let me run a softer main spring.

I do think the blowback ports helped considerably and may be necessary for it to cycle at this low of a pressure. Overall, I’m happy with it finally. It was great before the Pepperball upgrades but then everything got thrown in a loop and took awhile to sort out. It’s shooting darts at 450psi and I’m good with that 😆

1st victory of the New Year!!

Thanks Cal. Took lots and lots of critical thinking and wrenching. Hopefully this post can help others if they decided this might be something they want to do. It shoots a lot softer now and is a good bit more quiet.

Just a one shot vid. Takeaways from all this, for me-

                    Tippmanns hate macroline.

Pepperball was worth it just for the valve, reduction fitting, and front bolt.

Speed of airflow is just as important as volume. Maybe more. A large volumizer isn’t necessary unless you run macroline.

Im using a Shocktech mini cocker VASA in to the reduction fitting and that’s what allows me to build a volumizer. This isn’t the only way though. Dye make a mini cocker VASA, Baccipaintball.com has tons of neat adapters and fittings that could be cobbled together to make a volumizer, Palmers has a 1/4 npt to tank threads VASA and a 1/4 npt to 1/8 npt reducer which would work, an autococker LPR is 1/8 npt and would thread right in the reduction fitting (it would need to be gutted and sealed), etc, etc. Basically, you just got to get 1/8 npt to tank threads.

Port and polishing the powertube and polishing the hammer really help smooth this marker out.

Polishing the trigger and sear, putting trigger washers on the sides of the trigger and sear, a lighter trigger spring, and a TechT size 1 pin make a night and day difference in trigger pull.

The VASA has to be ported a considerable amount to flow HPA at lower pressure or it acts as a terrible bottleneck.

This is all great stuff man. Can you advise on polishing the Hammer? My hammers and triggers seem to be made of Nickel, or some other soft metal - and not reacting well to polishing for me (Pro Lites & Carbines). I'll keep trying different methods

C26G I have 2 spare 68 hammers that have a gold like color to them. Are these nickel? The 2 I polished were definitely steel. I never polished either of the gold looking ones.

First thing I do is take a file to any burrs I find then I hit it with steel wool. Then a sanding block and finished with Mothers aluminum polish. The polish works best on aluminum but it really polishes anything metal.

                        I think that's a zinc chromate plating.

Finally got to chrono it today and really like the way it turned out. Reg is set at 500psi. I didn’t make a vid of it with a Freak barrel but it was a lot more consistent with it and was shooting 270-280 fps at 450psi. Problem is the Freak back won’t fit in the powerfeed. I’ve been told the powerfeed is pretty rare so I guess it’ll just rock the J&J for awhile

Nice man! Great rate of fire too, looks like a nice smooth trigger action. I'm interested in that Powerfeed setup - what is it from and was it a pain to configure it to your marker?

C26G Trigger is super smooth. I still gotta mill the safety to make it functional but other than that it’s done. Finally lol

The powerfeed came out it the early or mid 90s and was made for the Pro Lite but it fits the Pro Carbine perfect. No modifications needed for it to work. It’s a night and day difference when using a gravity fed hopper. I didn’t have to shake it once today, out of 1000 shots. Stock feed I’d have to shake a couple times at a minimum to get it to feed.
