    Tippmann 98 Custom Efficiency Testing?

Does anyone know if there are any resources out in the web where someone has tested the air efficiency of a Tippmann 98 Custom, with and without attachments like the cyclone feed, response trigger, and barrel kits? Thanks!

    Bad

    Done

Without a rva they will use very close to the same amount per shot because there is no dwell or pressure adjustment. And in stock trim that are set up to use that 9" barrel that's close to a paper towel tube in diameter

Thanks for the comment. What’s an RVA and do you have anything empirical for me to look at? Anyone do a side by side comparison and actually count? Any references would be appreciated as that’s what I’m wanting the most.

Turbo uses tapatalk and can’t see comments. But an rva is a rear velocity adjuster. It replaces the back cap and adjusts mainspring tension.

there has been test over the years where to find them thow...i seen power tube test, upgrades are lp kit, ebolt kit but with the ripclip is better then the cyclone or a hopper adapter and a e hopper.
centre feed mod was a big one to get it to shoot faster as well published internals. teflon coating tube was also an upgrade.
there are different valves one with 3 channels and one with 4 some modified. adjusting with valve spring upgrades and lighter hammer/ spring.

its posable i seen adjustable banjo think from rt kit could use for cyclone i think?

i once was collecting 98/a5 clones to find the differences but stopped the project.

simply put unless you really love the 98 there cheaper better markers out there.

as for barrels cockerpunk / gerglmuff / PunkWorksPaintball on YouTube did a big test on it basically paint is more imported then the barrel. it was done a few years ago so better tech might help with a redo but ya.

biggest thing is probably a good take reg, inline reg, the published internals and a slight under bore and no cyclone no rt. most upgrades don't help.

but like nadrepadre said do to the valve its just poor to get any kind of consistency.

    parts and upgrades list:
    tech t zero kick hammer/act
    tech t zero kick se
tech t zero kick se mk2
New Designz Tippmann 98/A5/X7/BT Lightweight Hammer Kit (bt hammer are different so...)
    rva
    spring kit
    valve springs
3/4 channel valve or milled valve or there like a gold or red valve Warrior Tippmann 98 vave
teflon coating tube power tube (rare) DOP Tippmann 98 Pro Seal Front Bolt & Power Tube?
    aluminum power tube
    published internals
    orange bolt/bolt with oring
tech t Super Bolt - Anti Chop Bolt System
Dynamic Sports Gear Tippmann Smooth Bolt 2.0 (Soft Tip Bolt
Rufus Dawg Paintball Wicked Bolt & Powertube Kit
    Delrin Venturi Bolt
Core Anti Chop Bolt w/ Spring
    ebolt/diy ebolt projects
    rt kit
    lpr kit
    cyclone/ upgrades
    fat tube kit
    rip clip
pro team power tube hopper adapter
    centre feed kit
    e triggers
posably mech trigger i think i seen?
    hair pin trigger kit
    pumpkit/mod
1/2 c clip (some bt valves have them)
    use air over co2
    tech t fang trigger
    electrical tape mod
power tube with no rt/cyclone nub/front velocity adjuster
the idea of the cones was to fine one that may have improved on or made changes as they are all slightly different.

As Trbo said, they generally release the same blast of air each time unless you spring it. Efficiency with cylone or rt or whatever is about the same. You're just adding an unsealed port to the blast area and taking air away from going down the power tube and out the bolt face. You will always struggle to have decent efficiency due to valve design. Even with 2 way e-bolts, modified valves, lower pressure chambers, internally o-ringed bolts, you will always struggle to get air to flow through the valve in an efficient and smooth manner. When valve is opened, air flows backwards towards the rear of the gun, slams into the back face of the valve body, forcing it back towards the front of the marker on the outside of the valve body. It's a very shitty design if you want a marker that performs well, but the valves work for what the guns were designed to do. If someone made a properly designed valve for the 98/a5 platform, it would blow the tits off anything the aftermarket has made for 98s as far as actual measurable performance goes.

If someone wants to fund it I will happily test it. I have stoc tippmans, lighly modded, moderatly, and nothing original that can be tested

My 2 cents as someone who shoots tippmanns for years and prefer an old blowback to most anything. Get a rear velocity adjuster and a spring kit. Polish the internals and the clamshells lightly, there should be easily found instructions in the tippmann sections. Put a 12 to 14” barrel in the .685 ish bore neighborhood. Then be done. Everything you do to a Tippmann to try to get it to be more efficient and consistent also makes it less reliable. My carbines shoot laser tit ropes, they don’t need regulators, or aftermarket bolts/ hammers/ power tubes or any other fancy junk to make them heavier.
